from certain posters you can be assured that it's a joke. the joke mainly being on outlandish comps
Also, outside of the insiders and some folks that take this board very serious and debate 6 pages about our 8th best player, it's safe to assume 99% of the posts here have some sort of joking aspect.

Although I'm still pretty upset with the staff that we've missed out on Bryce Hopkins at least 4 different times.

NW was definitely the first. Nebraska was also really brutal. Same with Duke. Tennessee wasnt great outside of that putback dunk. From a neutral perspective, for good or bad, I think the fan's main deal was always why he played so much (30+ minutes, often ahead of guys like Will/Dra/Tre/Morez) when he wasn't at his best and turning in very insufficient outings in our losses. He had some really good outings in some of the wins (Oregon, Michigan, Purdue), but his poor play/shooting in the losses seem to really rub people the wrong way. Brad's idea was probably understandable in the fact he wanted floor spacing and shooting; it just didn't always work out that way and a guy like Ben gives you very little offensively outside of that catch and shoot 3 ball.
I agree, the Nebraska game was AWFUL. No doubt he got a lot more playing time than we wanted to see, especially since Will/Dra,Tre/Morez showed so much promise. My sons and I started referring to BH as Brad's other son. When he wasn't "on," he looked really overmatched. Seems like a nice guy, I felt kind of sorry for him, especially with all the criticism he got on social media. Privately, though, I was saying the same things. Anyway, hoping for a better year in a much smaller role.

The last 8 games of the season, Ben's high minute mark was 24. He averaged just under 19 mpg over those last 8 games.

So many people on this board love to ignore facts. It's a problem everywhere these days.

What I'd like to discuss is if anyone has thought about BH turnover rate and how it impacts his playing time. Is it more or less important than what he eats for his pregame meal? How does his three point percentage in warmups affect his ability to score in the low post without turning the ball over? Does anyone, anyone, have a ready breakdown of his turnovers for each four minutes of games played? Do the mandatory time outs skew the results?

If he eats an apple turnover before the game, does that increase his turnovers on a proportional basis? Blueberry? Raspberry? Does correlation equal causation? I'll hang up and try to learn something.....

Lower priority recruit ace
So the message for the recruits when they see Hamer is more like: "take it or leave it?" Truthfully, it kinda makes sense when you need three/low four star prep players to fill the roster.

good article:

Anyone comment on how high school recruiting has changed? Seems in the NIL era, with all the year to year transfers, this has majorly changed things. And with money above board, the cottage industry of handlers and back room dealers, I assume has taken a huge hit. I'm guessing that's good for programs like Illinois.

I'm more interested in his DBO stat line.

Ben averaged 3.8 reb per game last year. 7th on the team despite being 6-9 and 5th in minutes. He was not comfortable last year with his role and level of competition, and it showed. 1 putback does not make him a good rebounder.
Hopefully he will be better next season playing ~12-15 mpg and shooting ~40% from 3 while trying hard on defense and having a few rebounds bounce to him.
That would be wonderful.

I pointed it out when I said I won't recruit anybody that wears a Mac Irvin jersey out of high school and Adam Miller wasn't worth the trouble of dealing with, but a decent chunk of the fanbase is still really into letting handlers handle us.

If you are serious, that is a pretty exclusive ballpark.

Edit: Being really athletic, doesn't necessarily mean that he is skilled at playing basketball

Your edit brings up an interesting topic that I dont think we've covered, how do you define athleticism?
