Lol definitely some self-aggrandizing going on in Werners post about Piper leaving, and maybe some sour grapes if you read between the lines.

LaTulip would be an excellent hire, but it sounds as if it doesn’t pay a whole lot (unless it has gone up in the later years). And, isn’t he more intersted in an on-air broadcasting gig? I think he did at least one Illini basketball game last year for the Big Ten Network.
Not to mention how Werner spent half the article talking about what a great job he did building up his business and, oh yeah, Piper did help a little.Agree to disagree. I just know if I left my company and my boss put out a statement thanking me but also mentioning how he was blindsided, thought he was in the middle of contract negotiations, how *he* doesn't feel burnout at his job yet, and how I've been paid much more than when I first started...I'd look at him a bit side-eyed as I left. Not a big deal either way.
Maybe, I remember Meacham doing at least one maybe 2 gamesLaTulip would be an excellent hire, but it sounds as if it doesn’t pay a whole lot (unless it has gone up in the later years). Clearly, none of business. But I think that’s kind of a bummer. He’d be a great coach.LaTulip is going to be on the national scene before long …
Between working with Jeremy and Field of 68 … It’s just a stepping stone … The guy knows ball … People on the national scene have seen it …
He’s had some coaching opportunities and decided that’s not the path for him …
Ooh, that's a good call, but I agree with you on the barriers to hiring him. My prediction is Kyle Tausk. In one of the articles, Werner mentioned that Piper helped identify the replacement. Tausk interned on the Tay/Piper show...no clue, but that's my guessHaven't been watching show since Piper replaced Werner, but Issac Trotter was the intern back in Werner's day & would be a good hire, but not sure how much sense it would make for him vs staying at his current Big Ten/National level.
You guys are really confused as to what Derek did and what Latulip does/is qualified to do
Mike is in the top 1% of National analysts when it comes to knowing the game. Star in the makingLaTulip is going to be on the national scene before long …

Yes, you are right. I may have gotten them mixed up. But. I thought I would ask my old friend AI. I just asked if Mike LaTulip had broadcast any Illini games last year. It came back with the answer, yes. But the citation it gave was Illinois Loyalty. So, I clicked on the link that AI provided, and it brought me right to this thread and to this page, or page 9. Funny. I am guessing it was actually citing me (hey, I’m famous), but I was just asking, I didn’t say he did for sure. Or did someone since my post affirm that he did broadcast one game? If so, I apologize if I missed it.Maybe, I remember Meacham doing at least one maybe 2 games
Agreed. Sounds much more like a spot for Holocek than for LaTulip. You guys are really confused as to what Derek did and what Latulip does/is qualified to do
Wow ! Not at all did Jeremy do that. Jeremy is a super star and works his a.. off. What a horrible take. Not to mention how Werner spent half the article talking about what a great job he did building up his business and, oh yeah, Piper did help a little.
FSU, Miami and Illinois is what I’ve been told …
Going to be really tough to get him out of Florida … But Antigua has us in the mix …
we're gonna need a bigger plane
It’s just my opinion but I don’t think what LaTulip does (which is basically breakdown and analyze the play on the court in a very detailed way) is something people would pay for. I think 247 premium is all about getting “exclusive insider stuff on recruiting”. That IMO is what people were paying for and what Derek provided. So if you don’t replace him with someone else that brings that, I think subs are going to go down. You guys are really confused as to what Derek did and what Latulip does/is qualified to do

Yep, I could certainly see Werner looking to get LaTulip on the podcast even more to fill the Piper void in the meantime. But I don't think LaTulip has even done any type of sports writing or recruiting coverage.
LaTulip is a great analyst and podcast guest but he certainly could not be a one for one replacement for everything that Piper did for Inquirer.
