Nothing against Brown but I thought it was Euros transfers and elite prep prospects only as the strategy Brad is going with?

It’s certainly gone from we can get anyone from them if we want them to we can try but we’re probably not getting any of them …

Especially if we continue to send Hamer to recruit Chicago …
Genuine question for you, since you've got an informed viewpoint. With all the hate towards Hamer on this board, for a casual observer, (if any of us on this board can be categorized as that) it seems like there's a disconnect between how many of our fans view of Hamer vs. Brad's view. I would like to assume that Brad knows more about Hamer and his capabilities and sees something in him. Given that Brad's own tenure here (notwithstanding the contraction extension) is tied to his success... why would he retain Hamer if he is as incompetent and inept as many on the board say? Brad is incentivized to win and I'm sure he has performance incentives in his contract. I know some think he's stubborn, but he's shown a willingness to adapt in other areas of his coaching. As such, I'm curious why that may not have happened [yet] in this case. Thanks.

We all have to remember that Zach Hamer is an assistant coach, not the head coach. His role is to support Head Coach Brad Underwood and the overall team's success.

Therefore, judging his performance in isolation is challenging. We must deduce that his value lies in his specific contributions to scouting and player development as part of the Illinois coaching staff.

The little guy might surprise us all. From the tape I've seen, he's got a bulldog mentality.

Valid question … I think the easiest answer lies in the fact that Brad hired 2 coaches to essentially take over all of Hamer’s responsibilities from previous years, and gave Hamer a different role …

I think Brad wanted to be loyal to his guys and give Hamer a shot and it didn’t go well … Needed to re evaluate, and Brad did in the off season just like he said he would and what I reported here …

As far as why Hamer isn’t gone completely … That’d be a great question for Brad but it goes back to loyalty I think … Tyler gets along with him … So I guess that’s something …

But the players think he’s a little weird and out there (leggings) … His ability as a coach is the worst on our current staff and I understand it’s a good staff but still …

Brad demoted him and now other coaches who have more experience and proven results will take over and Hamer’s new role doesn’t have him focused on hardly any in game stuff … More so advanced scouting and video, planning the offseason stuff and helping out with recruiting and the portal … Which is fine …

But my goodness, stop sending him to freaking Chicago and having him reach out and talk to those kids … Might as well not even recruit Chicago if we’re going to send him up there …

Hopefully that answered your question …
