Just letting everybody know what are adversaries are doing.ILL let's lock constanza up

Yeah … Mizzou locking up 5 stars in the summer like it’s no big deal and I get crucified when I criticize the staff for taking a 3 star with no other HM offers … 🤷🏻‍♂️🤔

I'm not sure you were 'crucified' but it was definitely pointed out that every high major team takes on 3 stars

Missouri has quite a few themselves, you're just comparing a couple of recruits in a vacuum, which doesn't tell us anything

I also tend to care more about actual results.. Gates is 55-46 in 3 seasons at Missouri with zero 2nd weekends (1-2 NCAA record vs powerhouses Utah State, Princeton and Drake)

I couldn't agree with you more sir.i know we lean heavily on European recruits but I think the secret has gotten out about cheaper European talent has gotten out its going to be bidding wars for there top prospects just like it has for top American talent i really hope we can start landing top talent wherever it may come but were definitely going to need to get top talent soon letting mizzou out recruit is just unbearable for me to comprehend.i understand we need development guys and such but have really been hoping for someone like constanza or another big fish commits to the beloved soon

1. Andrej Stojakovic is injured. The full extent of his injury is unknown, and his return date is uncertain. (Sounds like he will hopefully be ready no later than the start of this season.)
2. True Freshman Keaton Wagler has apparently performed much better than expected in offseason workouts and scrimmages. Lots of excitement about his play. But he has obviously not yet shown how well he can perform vs Power 4 and Big 10 teams in regular season games.
3. True freshman Brandon Lee (son of Marquette great Butch Lee) appears to be a player with great effort on both ends, a dawg if you will. But once again, he has not yet proven how well he can perform vs Power4/Big 10 teams, or how many quality minutes he might possibly be able to provide this season.

I still wish that the Illini had added another solid/quality transfer to this roster. For example, Guard/Wing Ali Dibba (formerly at SIU, now at DePaul?) could have been a very solid addition via the transfer portal, one providing quality depth. Dibba, a 6'5"200-pound native of Stockholm, Sweden, averaged 17.2 points/4.8 rebounds/2.0 assists this past season for SIU. If not Dibba, there were several other solid players available as transfers, players who would apparently have not broken the bank to transfer to Illinois.

I hope that Flagler is a star in the making as a freshman. I hope that Lee can provide quality minutes as a freshman. I hope that the Stojakovic injury is not too bad, and that he can return to full strength before the regular season starts. I hope that the Illini in general can avoid serious injuries moving forward. I'm just saying that, for this season at least, the Illini may have been better served by adding another transfer player at the 15th roster spot, versus keeping that spot open for a possible mid-season transfer. JMHO

I agree with Indy. The two 3-star commits are fine project pieces for the roster. But I think the staff needs to focus on 5-star players and high 4-star players in the Class of 2026 moving forward. Constanza is certainly one of those players from whom we need a commitment. And there are several other studs from that Class who would be quality players. I personally would like to see us get a commitment from the big Italian kid or the big Chinese kid. And I'd like to see us sign a quality PG in that Class. There was a heady/steady 6'6" PG mentioned earlier (I forget his name) that sounds very intriguing.

We prefer 12-star recruits if we can get them. That's way more than 5.....

Probably not much. This isn't recruiting money. It's money to be used for stadium upgrades and capital projects.
But, as it was pointed out by "the juiceman cometh” in the football forum (the Gies donation one) that,
"One way to think about this is it'll fund improvements that would have come from football revenue, and that football revenue will now go to the revenue share players get."

Of course, this applies to football, but maybe there will be some advantage to the basketball program as well. Hopefully.

Illinois is estimated to have the 2nd highest revenue sharing total for basketball in the nation. (12th in Football)

I'm not sure how accurate these numbers are, but ... is anyone?

From the front page of the website...

We compiled data from NCAA membership reporting of 20 Power Conference schools, and arrived at the following estimated revenue sharing allocations per team for the upcoming 2025-26 year:

It's also estimating that each sport will get some sort of % of revenue, which isn't going to happen. For example, Penn State wrestling elected not to receive any NIL revenue in exchange for maxing out the scholarships available to them.

It looks like they just took the % of revenue each sport generates from the publically available data - Illinois does generate a larger % of it's total athletic budget from basketball vs. football than most schools, so that is likely how they came to that conclusion - basketball ticket sale revenue was actually higher than football for example a couple of years ago.

But, that doesn't mean that is how Josh will decide to use the $20.5M revenue sharing, each school can do that any way they want to, so he doesn't have to do it as a portion of revenue.

Yes … From Olney and still has family there … IIRC, someone on here fixed his Grandmother’s furnace this winter I believe … Next time that’s needed, tell her it’s on the house … 😉

Played HS in Evansville (where Geoff has significant ties) …

And now is at SPIRE with Boyle … And we have a great relationship with Boyle …
His mother is my cousin and grandmother my aunt (obviously). Last I heard, most, if not all, of his family would like him to go to Illinois.

Not trying to denigrate anyone here. Nevertheless, why don't we leave the recruiting to the guys whose very livelihoods depend upon their judgement of how best to put together the talent of the team they put on the floor. They do not and under no circumstance should never listen to posters or fans as to whom or how to recruit...period. Methinks CBU has put together some pretty good results over his tenure in C-U....not Izzo level but a the just below and knocking on the door. We all hunger and are passionate for a FF or two and a NC is the goal. But our job is support...not recruiting.

The problem with 5 stars is you gotta pay them a lot and you gotta play them a lot. I’m not convinced that playing /paying a bunch of freshmen is the way to win a title in this era. Inside the range of around the #15-150 prospects there is a whole lot of boom and bust.
As long as everyone is basically a free agent every offseason, I’d rather spend big on guys who have more experience, be that in high major basketball or Europe. You have a lot better idea what your dollars are buying.

I have been waiting to hear that! 5 star guys are likely 1 and done… spend the money these days on proven players that have experience! 4 star kids might work into the system and contribute nicely if we retain them. 3 star kids…. if you get lucky they develop and surprise us…. or at least help out as quality practice players. Relax on the recruiting folks…things are so different now. sure take what we can. In the end we need to find the best players we can afford… where ever we find them!

I think the key is how good is the 5 star kid. I’d take a one and done sure fire lottery pick any day. But outside of the top 10 or so, probably going to have some growing pains.
