Tyler absolutely did find Wagler almost by accident. He was visiting family in Kansas when someone told him he needed to see this kid in person as he was not being heavily recruited and was under rated according to folks there. So Tyler went and watched him, offered and the rest is history as they say. I know me as well as many on here have questioned why he got the coaching gig here, but if you spend 5 minutes talking to him you will know he is sharp and knows his stuff.Tyler. not sure if he "found" him, but he shepherded that recruitment and he was the catalyst for tendering the offer
I live about 30 minutes from Waukee Northwest. Looks like I can watch a few games and earn “mini-insider” status for a season.
Matt Painter when he sees a 7 footer recruitHuan to Purdue. guess not that surprising
Is he going to wear 25?
I'm glad the kid has signed on. Could be a diamond in the rough. So next year we'll have two Davis.I live about 30 minutes from Waukee Northwest. Looks like I can watch a few games and earn “mini-insider” status for a season.![]()
Looks like we're shooting to find Wagler 2 between him and Brown. 1 expensive prep and saving most our $ for retention/ 1-2 splashy portal/International depending on how said retention/potential NBA interest plays out.

Petro, AS, Lee & Wagler will be back … We are adding Morillo and he didn’t come here to sit … I’m high on Ethan Brown and think he will play a bench role … And we will have 7 figures plus to go get another stud …
I ain’t worried bout it …![]()
Seems crazy to talk in absolutes regarding next year's roster these days.
Just re stating what the staff is hearing … And what their plans are …
They didn’t bring a lot of these guys in to be 1 year players …
I can say I don’t get the vibes I was getting from some guys who hit the portal last year from these new guys … I was on here in November and December last year saying how pissed Morez and his camp were …
Not a word about anyone being upset this year … I mean sure they’re upset they’re hurt and want to play … That’s to the be expected … But I’ve heard no drama …
All great points. You've obviously been following recruiting for a while and are able to observe patterns and control wishful thinking.Appreciate this convo as a PSA because the odds are likely -800 one of those mentioned names is not on the roster next year. Player performance changes, so do player demands. That forces the staff to adjust to maximize the team's performance, which is why I soooo appreciate Underwood being Illinois' head coach. A couple other notes on this:
- Keep this in mind when Illinois' season is over and each of the top 10 transfer portal targets are being mentioned on here as coming to Illinois
- Assume it's only a 10% chance any recruit is coming here, 50% if Orlando is the lead recruiter, and 90% if they are committed to Illini
I'd wager that it would be Petro or Lee who leaves should any of those 4.Appreciate this convo as a PSA because the odds are likely -800 one of those mentioned names is not on the roster next year. One thing that could help for Petro is the familiarity having other Euros on the team. Plus, we haven’t even see him play. He might be amazing and get a ton of minutes. Petro could replace Boz alongside Wagler.
I don't think he'd be coming off the bench since Boz will be gone. But it's virtually impossible to say at this point. It's fair to assume a few guys that we expect/hope to be back leave.I'd wager that it would be Petro or Lee who leaves should any of those 4.
Andrej-You nailed it getting the junior year version. He will either test NBA draft waters or come back for a year 2 bump. Too risky to transfer again IMO especially when Brad's track record with year 2 transfers.. ELITE
Keaton-Similarly, hears his scouting report from the NBA before returning. No other Top 25 program wanted you out of HS. THEN, they start you as a freshmen and you are a key piece of a F4 hopeful team?
You'd have to outbid Illinois by a bunch IMO.
Petro could go back overseas, or take a bigger bag/ high usage role that better showcases what he feels his game should be. How happy will he be once healthy coming off the bench? Idk but someone will try and get in his ear and promise the moon.
Lee-I love his game.
Though how happy will he be if he can't break into a very talented rotation for more than 5-10 minutes a game.
He was a prolific scorer in HS/AAU.
None of the reasons Petro or Lee could leave are a personal shot towards those fine young men. It's just a reality of our sport now
Haven't seen him on one reputable first round projection. Honestly may not even be the best player on the team with being hurt and Boswell's emergence. Is it completely unreasonable to get Tomi back?
