How much does that really matter when you're getting a guy for just 1 season? That's his whole eligibility. We know right from the outset he's not going to be here the following season.

We've had success with that scenario before, with guys that have been in one place (Domask) and guys that have moved around (Guerrier). For someone of Haggerty's talent you take him. And I don't think it makes sense to blame him for the Jerome Tang dysfunction at K-State. Coleman was on a losing team there too, and we know enough about him as a player to know he does a ton to contribute to winning.

Effective FG% is the better metric because it considers the value of 2's + 3's.


Haggerty's eFG% is 52.3%. For comparison, Kylan Boswell is 52.0% this season. Haggerty carries a heavier burden (volume) on offense, but his defense is (substantially) worse than Kylan's. It only makes sense to consider Haggerty if you think his eFG% will improve quite a bit if his offensive burden decreases (and he's willing to decrease). I would say the history of guards like him making an efficiency leap like that is not good.

I think if he's a bought in 2nd or 3rd best player you got an awesome team. If he's your best and leader, in the Big Ten, I'm nervous.

This is the conundrum with bad defenders in Underwood's era. Illinois isn't going to create a lot of havoc on defense so that means individual players can be viciously targeted. If Haggerty is your 3rd best player, is it worth it when he's put in a pick-and-roll on defense on every single possession?

He’s carrying an awful team. He’s 3rd in the country in scoring.

Was 3rd in the country in scoring last year as well. That Memphis team was not bad (5 seed) and he was still terrific - conference POY over yaxel.

Also averages 5 rebounds. I’m just not brave enough to pass on that kind of stat stuffer.

Oh, for sure. I was just answering the question about how he is different from Martinelli. Seemed a few had pause knowing he's been at 4 different schools so that was my take. As someone else said, the Memphis team he was on was 29-6 and how could you not be excited by the offensive #s?

I feel like that's the BU formula:

1. Positional size
2. Rebounding
3. Court vision/decision making
4a. Perimeter shooting
4b. Scoring in the paint.

Not even a prospect unless you have at least 2 of 1-3 plus at least one of 4a/4b.

The ideal scenario is obviously having all 5, which gets you a Wagler or Mirk.

Add passing in there somewhere too. It’s court vision adjacent but definitely its own skill.
