Dwyane Wade Dunk GIF

I don’t get this one. Someone smarter than me please make the connection.

There is a world where he has improved his jumpshot and can take threes. We currently have an slasher wing that is great at driving to hoop and isnt a great 3-point shooter in Andre. I would argue that Ty has been a better overall defender and rebounder before injury (though Andre has really stepped up recently). If Ty is a slightly worse shooter but better rebounder and defender than Andre, I can see a role for him off the bench. Big if, but not inconceivable.
If there was a worlk like that I would have already expected to to hear about it. In 2 years no insider or anyone who has seen practices has said TY's shot has been getting better. Not that I remember u fortunately. I hope its the case.

I can't believe the freshman class they have... Gates has been pretty blah there so far imo (he inherited a pretty good team his first year)

Bryant and Crowe both looked impressive in the McD game last night, so hopefully next season is a full-on Rutgers/Bailey/Harper experience

My favorite so far:
Son of Norman Smiley? 😆

A lot of emotional energy got tied up in the notion that Groce failed to land top recruits, and he certainly had high-profile failures.

But with hindsight you look at the broad history of Illinois Basketball and we've had a very strong sell to talented players in volume for all of modern history where ranking recruits has been a thing, with the massive and glaring exception of the Weber period until he hired Snacks, the classes of 04-08.

It's EXTRAORDINARY how bad our recruiting was during that period, there's nothing else remotely like it, and it came during the period of our greatest success and popularity.

A lot of people would like to redeem Weber as a figure for various reasons, but he was a disaster for this program, and the way in which he failed just makes your brain hurt.
Agreed. And it was further complicated because he refused to take any share of the blame and typically dumped it on the players.

No need to over think. Just a joke.
A cryptic photo of who we *may* be targeting in the portal would be a phenomenal way to spend the next 4 hours until tip off…

lol, don’t you have a game plan to finish? Over thinking is all we do, even if the messages aren’t cryptic.

I love Ty and his loyalty but if he is starting for illinois next season, something went TERRIBLY wrong in the offseason

I don’t think anyone is suggesting a starting role for Ty. But there is a role for him to earn.

And anyone thinking his 3pt shot can’t/ won’t/hasn’t improve/d…I direct you to DMFW first three years…. .225 .317 .283….followed by his fourth year….wait for it….. .547

I agree. Maybe he’s a bad shooter, maybe he’s on ok shooter, maybe he’s a good shooter but how he shot 2 years ago isn’t a very good indicator given that he’s shot well over 100,000 jump shots since then attempting to improve his shot.

Saying this lineup thinking Stojakovic is going pro (Not portal, but if he returns to college IMO it's Illinois):

Coleman
Johnson
Rodgers
Mirk
Tomi or Z either or because one is going pro IMO

Petro
Lee
Morillo
J.Davis
Jak
L.Davis
Brown

That is a heck of a team/nucleus as is. Think you need another impact to solid C/post unless both Tomi and Z return. If one or two or are gone/leave, you have 1-3 spots to add even more impact guys.

I'm drawing a blank on who Johnson is ?..................

I was replying to the poster that posted Jasper Johnson from Kentucky. Illini were in it to the end due to the OA ties but didn't win out. People say he didn't have the year anticipated at Kentucky but is still a 5 star former top 15 player (Who I liked his game on highlight film). I put him there but you can put pretty much any potentially serious transfer option there unless AS comes back.

Wow, this blows my mind, having somehow never seen this photo of John Scheyer in an Illini shirt before. And then I started to think about our recruiting from 2005 to 2016... ugh. And THEN I remembered we are playing in the Final Four in a few hours.

I've seen the photo before but never noticed Scheyer behind him. Interesting.

I've been here this whole time since then so I'm not even worried about the past other than the successes. We are now, currently in the greatest era of Illini sports history (Mainly talking bball and fball) and they have to chance to put themselves there forever for both. I'll toast to that right now.

ok thanks..........I watched Johnson on that U18 team with Acuff and Mikel Brown and he looked good , but his play this year @ UK was mediocre , at best.......of course he didn't get a lot of tick in the games I watched.....lefty with a good stroke and played uptempo on that U18 squad...........

He was hardly running the point. Sure we technically started him there but it was obvious after a few games that he wasn't the answer there.

Rogers' best work by far was as a beast rebounder and versatile defender.

Agree and going back up STRONG to just dunk the leather off of the ball.

If we bring back the guys we want from this year, integrate the incoming freshman, and then add someone like Blackwell.... the sky is the limit for next year's roster.
Wow would that team be talented. It will obviously be up to the staff to make it work but all the pieces will be there for another incredible season.

The chemistry is the x factor. All these team getting rebuilt won’t have the baked in chemistry. I pray we get to retain these players.

winning is everything when it comes to recruiting, but hopefully it helps current players also want to give it another go. Thats just as value added, especially if you’re aspiring to go pro.
