And it would be a totally reasonable argument to say Blackwell is a better fit for us than Andrej. More of a floor-spreader certainly.

The conversation here assumes adding Blackwell wouldn't impact Andrej's consideration of the portal, though I think we all know that's unrealistic.

But you need to think even beyond that. To what extent does paying top dollar to bring in a new ball-dominant scorer impact EVERYONE'S decision about their role on the team next year, especially if it has Andrej eyeing the exit door?

We've been causing that cascade every year, and by this point we should have great confidence in our staff's ability to pivot from there to put a very good team together. But our potential returnees are a GREAT team. The risk/reward is different.

You beat me to it. I just typed out the exact same thing. There's 0% chance that both guys, in their final season, are going to be ok deferring. There is absolutely no way that occurrence happens.

None of us, if we were in Drej or Blackwell, would be ok with that. The NBA is one year away and they, rightfully so, would want to be featured. Keaton was unbelievable last year and a total shock. He became the centerpiece of the roster, while Drej and Boswell had to accept roles. It had to absolutely kill Drej to sit behind Davis in a starting role. He seriously took one for the team and was 100% class in doing so. If you're Brad, you either have to make a promise and reward him for being a stand up guy or be honest and let him walk if you can't make him any guarantees.

The portal requires amazing vision by the staff and full buy in before the season starts and you can only do that through transparency.

Him and Jelavic in Mega were both really complementary to each other game. Jovic kinda fit SEC style with his physicality but ultimately he fits that profile as bench big who rebounds and does the dirty work. Jelavic was always more of a finesse big who can really shoot it but he never got the ball in that UK team which kinda felt that most of these guys were playing for themselves. So most of the time he was either on an island somewhere or just waiting for a ball or kickout that never came or was given the "grenade" by the end of the shotclock :D
Think both guys can play and not surprising, both represented by Misko.

I've learned to just be patient until the final roster is set. We'll inevitably lose some that we collectively justify and lose one that is a shocker and painful; then add a bunch we've never heard of, some we have. At this point, I trust the staff is able to navigate all this craziness and set us up for success in the next year. We seem to have more churn then most, but it also seems to always work out well for us in the end.

I think it’s best for all if he comes back …

I’m not sure that there is a definitive role for him right now but he’s going to have the opportunity to earn one …

If nothing else … I think he can be the guy who we put in to stop a dude like Boyd getting 40 on us …
Him being a program guy will provide so much value. And to be honest during our slump this year, having a guy like Ty would have been such a difference.

Sure there's no defined spot for him in the rotation, and sure he has obvious shooting issues, but he provides something that no one else on the roster can.

Also, don't be shocked to see him develop an avg 3 pt shot. I've seen bad shooters develop a shot (Chester Fraizer & Damonte Williams). There's no reason why Ty cant be like that.

Hope they work something out. Im pulling for him to stay.

We could be Indiana sitting there with 2 whole scholarship players remaining: Nick Dorn & Trent Sisley

I've heard they are going to go hog wild with NIL $ this year though... I'm eager to see what they end up with
It will be interesting to see if Darian Devries can get any momentum w/o his son. His rise in profile in the coaching world pretty much coincided with Tucker's rise as a player. Dude has never won a NCAA Tournament game. It's kind of shocking that he is at IU with that resume. He was good at Drake, but his next winning record in a HM conference will be his first.
I'm sure they will get some dudes to take their money...will it result in wins?

lot of talk about offensive attributes on here, don't want to forget that Kylan was our go-to guy for top defensive assignments...

Colin Cowherd may not be everyone's favorite sports media personality, but I think his take on NIL is accurate - it can be jet fuel for a program IF you have a good coach & good culture. DeVries just seems...extremely average to me? He's got some work to do in terms of building the culture back up around the hoops program. IU basketball sorta feels like where we were in 2017. If I were an IU fan, I'd be confident they'll land talent with NIL, but wouldn't be super confident with DeVries at the helm.

I really hope Mirk, Davis, Ty, and the twins stay.

Im completely fine if stoja stays too, and maybe petro if he can find his role and be who we thought he was.

I have no clue how Bilic, Lee, or Jakstys fits into this or what they can do. I suppose we will find out soon enough how this shakes out.

I got told to expect some subtraction before any addition …
I could be wrong, but I'd expect Big Z would want to go somewhere where he can start, despite how much he might enjoy playing with Tomi.

But I don't know anything. It's just my guess.

That could’ve been the Hoosiers hoisting that trophy last night had they not opted to keep Woody for one more year.

Except his best season and only NCAAT victory happened without his son.

I dont see it. Who are you benching for Ty at the 3 or 4? Ty cant shoot to play the 1 or 2. Who are you benching or taking chunks of minutes from? Are you taking minutes from Andre at the 3 or Mirk and plugging in Ty as an undersized 4? Ty will be a role player off the bench at the 3 imo if he stays behind Dre and maybe Jake. If we want spacing Ty cant play the 1 or 2 plus we added 2 high end freshman guards and are high end guys for that role too.
I don't see why Ty can't take some of Ben's minutes as an all around glue guy. Obviously Ben shoots the 3 better but he wasn't hoisting them up as much this year.

Ben spent a little too much time IMO this year guarding dudes smaller than him so Ty would slide right in there as well.

I love reading the tea leaves in this forum during portal season. It's like a roller coaster....
Yesterday the tea was warm and Roller coaster was ascending
Today, the tea has cooled and the coaster is only coasting.

What will tomorrow bring?
What will this week bring?
What will this month bring?

Stay tuned!!!

Illinois obviously has a good relationship with Serbian agent Miško Ražnatović because they take care of his clients.

But, he is being a bit difficult.
In regards to existing Illini clients I presume?

Uh oh. Shooting for the moon for his clients/our players? Or is there more to it than that?
