Back half of the year … Below average …

When playing weaker teams ? Good …

When playing above average guards ? Bad …
Seemed to pick up intensity for brief moments then lose his bite.Pretty average overall,IMO a bit over rated.

Agree to disagree, top 5 defender in conference as selected by coaches and select media, so argue with them I guess

You are always full of hot takes, unable to take it seriously at times to be quite honest
I was shocked when he was voted as an all defensive player. He had his fair share of trouble defensively in my opinion. I expect a "lock down" guy when I see an all defensive list but he was far from that. Was he an above average defender, yes. A great defender no. Just my opinion.

I generally agree with your thesis that we would be better served finding someone that can function as a high-level true PG but I disagree with the statement that the above lineup couldn’t work. It could. We’ve seen a different flavor of this in 2024. It would just mean instilling a different type of scheme that leans into our big men more and uses our guards to get the ball up the floor and kick off more high-low sets.
I'd advise looking up what Marcus Domask's AST%'s were at SIU.

You've gotta have guys with great feel for ball movement to play Tyler-ball. That's the weakness with Andrej, Blackwell is fine for a 2 but not for a 1, and then you add a freshman mystery box.

You are right that Mirk and Tomi are plus for their position, but they ain't Domask, and none of the above are Wagler.

But have you heard the rumors of Mike Thorne Jr? Big if true.
Well if you're going to break the seal into the Groce era let's get a bit of Khalid Lewis going.

I was not aware that Lendeborg was of Dominican background. The question I have is did Illinois ever try and recruit Lendeborg? Orlando Antigua's background is also Dominican. Was Brad and/or Orlando not impressed with Lendeborg?

I guess I don’t really get the height argument …

Kid is one of the top PG in the country … He’s proven himself …

He’s 41% from 3 … 82% from the line …

Rebounds extremely well for his size …

He’s also WON literally everywhere he’s been …

How quickly everyone forgets Kylan is 6’2 in shoes …
You didn't get the memo that all players leaving must be replaced by the same exact sized guys and the offense will be exactly the same. We can not deviate.🙃

Quick side request: can someone share me the thread or post link when the insiders and the staff first knew Keaton Wagler was going to be one of the top freshmen in the country and be an one-and-done Illini legend??

Just curious when we found out he was legit
So, I went and looked back at the posting history of our insiders.

Here’s the ones I found:

And if we do try to remember, the staff and players were talking up Wagler throughout the off-season. Yes, nobody saw him being a consensus 2nd team All American… but there was always hints that he was way better than expected.

Buzz of him being VG came in the summer...

One and Done? Look no further that one afternoon at Mackey Arena.

8pts per 100 possessions better? I'm seeing raw 1.070ppp given up with Boswell on court vs. 1.056ppp average for the team. Adjusted per competition, Kylan is -1.9ppp, team is -1.5ppp. What did you use to find the 8pts per 100 possessions better? Individual defensive metrics are tricky as they tend to be team base parameters that for all intents and purposes is glorified plus/minus. And from that standpoint, really Big Z was the standout there. Illinois was 10.0ppp raw when he was on the court. Everyone else pretty much plus or minus 4 (Petro and Jake slightly worse)

Overall I think Boswell was a fine defender and had very good games and some stinkers as well. I personally also wouldn't have voted him on the all-defense team this year, but I do think he was very good for us most nights and our best on-ball defender for most of this season.

EvanMiya.com is what I used. Keep in mind 8 points is per 100 possessions, so is the equivalent of 0.08 per single possession.

FOX Sports Data has him consistently between 0.6-0.9 defensive points per possession over his career, which is elite (even though I don't agree he's an "elite" defender; the bar that was set that I am crossing with my commentary was he "isn't good" which is far from the same argument as "isn't elite").

It's what nearly always happens with these types of discussions on here. There are many people involved in every discussion so the goal posts move around as different people chime in.

Oh??? We talking by end of day? What’s the timeline?

In a battle with the Devils right now …

Duke people seem confident but have said they have plenty of options on the table so better make up your mind relatively quickly … Illinois people seem confident and have made it known he’s their guy …

I don’t think Blackwell wants to wait forever on this … But holding out for a little while to get some extra cash is the smart move …
