No backup for Mirk and lose 3 point threat with Andrej and passing
Did you read the post? He only listed a starting 5, so I don’t know how a back-up comes into play. Also a backcourt of Blackwell and Coleman likely collectively shoot the 3 better Wagler and Boswell. Passing would be just a good as this year.

Jake Davis starting makes zero sense to me. I definitely would have preferred to have AS guarding Mullins at the start of that UCONN game.

Maybe he can go back to Mercer and play 35 minutes a game. I assume if he leaves he will go down a level and play full time.
He started and played 28 mpg at Mercer as a Freshman, then willing went up a level knowing it'd be a lesser role. Why would he now, having earned more time and responsibility at the Big Ten level, go back down to have the thing he could have just had all along?

We don't really run his kind of offense, but he may have the quickest jump shot release I've ever seen.

Nice balance of stats for Vaaks. Height 6’7”, 16 pts, 35% on 3s, 1.5 A-TO ratio. Lot to like here.
Positional size, spreads the floor, high level craft, homeland was communist in the Cold War, sounds like an EDG!

I don’t get all these kids going into the portal. If you are not going to make money professionally playing basketball, at what point does it make more sense to finish the degree at your current school rather than chasing a few more bucks for one year at a different school? It seems like those kids start to put their degree at risk which is what will carry them for the next 30 years. I must be missing something.

I want as many + shooters as we can get our freaking hands on. Full stop. That is why Blackwell is so appealing to me. He shot almost 39% from 3 on high volume. Point blank, we have to find guys who can drill open shots consistently.

Blackwell fits that bill. So does Pryce.

Why not? He started on a Final 4 team. Who doesn't need a 6'6" guy who can knock down around 40% of his threes, rarely miss a defensive assignment, never turn it over, and rebound above his weight class?
I doubt anyone is guaranteeing him a starting spot, but there are certainly teams where he wouldn't have to fight so hard for starter minutes. If we retain all the guys we hope we will, and bring in someone like Blackwell, he's going to have his hands full keeping his minutes. Coleman and Morillo may not be Wagler type freshmen, but they will likely be more ready to contribute than Lee was.
I hope he stays. He's a heck of a college basketball player, and a true EDG.
I mean yeah the fact that Brad started him is a testament to how much he liked him.

I like Jake, he is a good shooter and fundamentally sound player that will usually make the right decision but he is limited at this level. Let's be honest, I don't think he would have started on a single other team that made the elite 8 including Iowa.

Yeah, he puts himself in a good position defensively but he also just doesn't move well enough to guard on the perimeter or chase guys through screens as shown by him trying to chase Mullins around screens against UConn or even Penn having most of its offensive success attacking him.

To add on to my above post, we didn’t lose to Connecticut because of some stellar defensive scheme. We got PLENTY of uncontested looks and it was brick city. Starting with the second half at UCLA, we couldn’t make WIDE OPEN shots. Have to address that. End of story.

A veteran all big ten first team player who averages over 18 points a game is going to come here to come off the bench for a freshman who is completely unproven at the college level and is 4 years younger 😂 less than a 0% chance.
