Regarding Blackwell...Illinois will have sent 4 guards first round in last 3 years, also a guy named Ayo about to make himself 15-20 million/year. Been to elite 8 and F4 last 3 years and huge fan base to fuel NIL.. Illinois also has a bag and your Dad is a proud Illini; Plays in premier bball conference and has a guard spot open; like our chances.

I’d imagine around a week.

He hasn’t even taken a visit yet (I’d guess he will?)

I doubt he really needs a visit? I have to assume he's been here several times w/his dad's ties to the program. Also, the amount of people that commit from portal w/o a visit seems to be a larger percentage than those that actually take visit(s).

Do we have a Duke insider on the board now, @ttlong5 ??

Don't know that I'm an insider LOL. But I have sources I use who typically give me good info.

Blackwell had far too good of a time at his recent UI campus visit imho

2.5 days ? Might put the mortgage on the over …

There’s really no benefit to him to commit right now …

I’d let teams get into a bidding war … At least a little bit …

He seems to know the current state of Duke basketball really well, that’s for sure.

What an irrational and distorted market this has become, where players who wouldn’t come close to being a NBA lottery pick can command the salary of a top 10 pick, in a league that plays less than half the number of games and maybe has 30% of the revenues.

Schools really need to rethink their failed strategy of avoiding designation of the athletes as employees; either collective bargaining or bankrupting athletic programs are the only two endpoints I see to this salary escalation.
I don’t disagree with this sentiment, but it seems like we hear this every year and by the next things have escalated another 20% higher. Any law/rule enacted will immediately be challenged and I can’t imagine the courts putting a stop to kids getting paid.

Visits do happen this time of year, but for the love of god, if he comes to town, can we get John something better to eat than McDonalds?

Sweet 16 roster spend (2025 - 26)
(1) Duke $12mm (2) Arkansas $11.50mm (3) St. John's $10.5mm (4) Michigan $10.5mm
(5) Arizona $9.5mm (6) Tennessee $9.5mm (7) UCONN $9.5mm (8) Illinois $9mm
(9) Purdue $8.75mm (10) MSU $8.5mm (11) Houston $8.5mm (12) Iowa State $8.25mm
(13) Texas $7.5mm (14) Alabama $5mm (15) Nebraska $4.5mm (16) Iowa ???

Kentucky $20mm BYU $13mm

Keep in mind Illinois was in the top 3 in Men's basketball revenue in 2025 - 26 (Over $30mm) so first some of the numbers getting thrown around aren't making alot of sense. (2) Illinois can compete.
I would be very surprised that Alabama was only $5mm
