I mean the picture seems pretty clear that Glynn wants John at his alma mater playing in the Big Ten for a coaching project he believes in, and John wants top-of-market NIL.

And over and over and over again we move along rather than pay top-of-market NIL not because we can't, but because that's not where the value is.

Just get our big four back, go get a passing-and-defense guard, and let's go show the Big Ten what "butt stuff" means.
You had me then you lost me.

Totally fine losing out on Blackwell if he goes to Louisville.

Hypothetically… who would we hope the pivot options are?
I have no clue who are the players that Brad and staff might consider as "'pivot options" if Illinois loses out on a John Blackwell transfer. But I see a couple of guards that I would consider as possible pivot options. [There are many others also available.]

6'4", 185-pound, junior PG Rowan Brumbaugh (Tulane). He averaged 19.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists this past season, while shooting 45.2% on FGs, including 36.0% on 3-pointers, and 80.4% on FTs. Brumbaugh is an experienced, talented, heady PG that would seem to be a good "fit" with the Illinois players, and in the Illini offensive system. I could see him starting at guard with Vaaks and bringing Coleman off the bench (at least in the early part of the upcoming season).

6'3", 180-pound, sophomore PG Terrence Hill Jr (Virginia Commonwealth). He averaged 15.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists this past season, while shooting 46.6% on FGs, including 37.0% on 3-pointers, and 84.4% on FTs. Hill was First Team All-Conference in the Atlantic 10 this past season as VCU's 6th man! (Remember his 30+ point game in VCU's comeback win over UNC in the NCAA Tournament?) I think that Hill could be an experienced ballhandler and scorer off the bench for Illinois, with Vaaks and Coleman starting as guards.

Backup 5: Zvonimir Ivisic
Backup 4: Ty Rodgers

🥱 .....
Ty Rodgers is not a viable power 4 at 6'6" 210. All this talk about him being something he isnt needs to stop. Maryland and most others with big 4s like Michigan, Purdue, MSU. or Maryland's Pherrell Payne at 6'9" 250 would destroy him. We need a real power 4 or that crap wont stop with Mirk on the bench. If we dont add someone our best option after Mirk or Z isnt Ty.

don’t look now but IU and Mizzou quietly assembling very strong prep+transfer classes….. 🙈. IU looks to have pivoted from Aiden Sherell and landed a Turkish 7-2 Center (SMU transfer). Or dare I say they might land them both?! 🫣🫣🫣
Maybe you should buy some clown pants

He’s going to USC … And I’m not sure he’s a fit … Definitely not anywhere near an EDG …

He’s a perfect fit for a Muss team …

Anyone that the BS program wants or has had … I automatically have no interest in …

He's got some dog in him. He'd never want to come off the bench anyway.

Sorry, I've seen too much good basketball to say a quick, bouncy athlete can't play defense or rebound against mauler 4's. Listed 6'7" Dennis Rodman comes to mind as the ultimate example among many. The luxury of having Mirk and Z is...you still have those guys as primary options.

Long time “read only lurker” here…
I grew up in the greater Gifford Metropolitan area 🤣, and walking up the railroad tracks to a then mostly abandoned auto auction yard, known as Gordyville, was part of my childhood. I was at “the game” in ‘79 when Eddie Johnson nailed the baseline jumper, beating Magic and Sparty, knocking off the then #1… Neil Bresnahan,(I think?), was on the cover of SI the next week, as the Illini assumed #1 rank as a result.

Both Gordyville, (and the program having Natty #1 chatter), made me smile. My life has come full circus.

And a hearty thank you to all for making this an ongoing interesting thingie to follow.

Go Illinivics!

I played a little baseball in the greater Gifford Metropolitan area, back in the day.
