SOMEONE is going to be that 4th big, even if they aren't big.I think the thought of Morillo playing the 4 is as a backup for a few minutes each game. He isn't going to encounter these huge, giant mismatches and the staff isn't going to put him in that position.

Agree. The '05 team had more grit and toughness through the season compared to this years but it increased as tourney time came for this team. feal really good about next year. This team has a lot better overall talent than 05-06 and it's not close.
It might take a while, but Illinois will add another player to its roster.
There are quite a few agents making inquirers. They have to sort through those and see who fits.
I guess it depends on how you define X and O. Weber gets a wild amount of credit for his Xs & Os while only focusing on man to man D and running the same motion offense with no real willingness to change. I don't think being 4th/5th in D efficiency and 104th/116th in O is showing good Xs & Os.Recruiting definitely Brad. X and O coaching I’ll take Weber
If Brad saw someone like that sub in vs us how long do think he puts in Mirk or Z to abuse them? Likely before he reaches the scorers table tp check in! Lol. If Tomi and or Mirk get in foul trouble themln i guess a healthy Jason will be in. I wish we would add a true 4 man to try and fill Bens role.I think the thought of Morillo playing the 4 is as a backup for a few minutes each game. Brad has had top offenses in 3 distinct styles and has had multiple Ds as good as Weber's; he gets a bad rap because his first 2 teams were awful defensively and 2023 was bad. Removing their 2 worst overall teams, BU's teams have average 26th in defensive efficiency, Weber averaged 23rd.
Bonus point: Even if ranked 80th in D, it's not hard to argue 2023 in particular was a masterclass in pivoting styles while facing adversity (this is an X&O skill IMO).
Based on specific word over usage, Lou hammered home “tremendous” AND “super” at a far greater rate than Brad’s “elite” usage. Advantage, Lou.Three of the top six… at what point is Brad the best Illinois coach ever? (Clearly, next April when we win the natty, but if that doesn’t happen).
UhhhhAbsolutely sucks Ty isn’t healthy (or that we can’t count on it)
The more we talk through this, he seems to be the Swiss Army knife that helps a ton off the bench in multiple spots. Not to mention, just a great team guy
You don't think Andrej didn't get promised a starting role in the post season negotiations? If he didn't, he probably wouldn't have stayed. He could have also got more money by leaving.Well and like you'd have been laughed off this board 365 days ago for suggesting Stojakovic would sit behind Jake.
Who says Jake won't start next year? That guy has played more and better than expectations in all three of his college seasons thus far.
rting role
I mean those are a collection of words that can be stuffed into the narrative hole in question, but they don't really add up to a plausible argument.
A path to playing time opened up for Lee, and he left the same day.
Occam's razor here is we're going to get one more.
There is no rush right now, but agreed with above. It might take a while, but Illinois will add another player to its roster.

Yeah, I didn't take your post as a direct insult so much as an unfair exaggeration. My intention was not to insult anyone. If that is how you took it I apologize.
I suppose it cuts both ways. Some will always defend the roster even when Brad wants more. Some will always criticize the roster even when Brad says it's good enough. When there's a flip-flop, it's mayhem on this board. Ok, it's always mayhem on this board.I do find it interesting that sometimes I read that BU is not satisfied so why should the fans be satisfied. Other times the staff IS satisfied so the true fans need to cry out they need to do more. It appears that whatever narrative suits the argument best is the one they run with.
I would still need neck length measurements before I'm satisfied with that. Some fans won't be happy until we have signed at least 7 lead guards, 3rd string 4s and 5s that would start on a lower-tier tournament team, and 17 wings that can shoot the three, guard, and drive it to the hoop.
No one is saying he's a 30 Min/game PF. But he can give you "spot" minutes there as well as 1-3. If we need someone behind T, Z, and Mirk, he's it (as of now).Morrilo is not a B10 4 man. There is no darn way right at 6'7" 215lbs he is going to play effectively defend the B10 power 4s like Morez, Pherrell Payne. MSUs, Purdues, or most other teams. Morrilo wasnt brought here to back up Mirk and guys Mirk can cover. Its ridiculous to think he can match up with the guys the B10, Bama, Tennessee and UConn play at that spot. Its totally a pipe dream. Morrilo can play the 1-3 but if he is asked to defend the 4s in this league he will be abused.
This board needs it lol.It might take a while, but Illinois will add another player to its roster.

Xrays with measurable growth plates as well please and thank youI would still need neck length measurements before I'm satisfied with that.
The idea that every aspect of college basketball coaching can be neatly separated into two distinct buckets, "Recruiting" and "X's and O's" was an oversimplification in 2006 and is basically just plain wrong today.I guess it depends on how you define X and O. Weber gets a wild amount of credit for his Xs & Os while only focusing on man to man D and running the same motion offense with no real willingness to change. I suspect Ty will command more on the open market, where some team will over pay for him based on his play before redshirting and the injury, than he would receive to come off the bench at Illinois. He’s a beloved figure here, but he has a finite time to maximize his NIL earnings so he’d be wise to do that elsewhere.Right now, I'd be very happy with Ty being our next "addition." Absent injury, he's not going to start (which may be a no-go for him). But I think he would play a lot because he can do the things we need given our roster make-up. Can defend 1-4, handle the ball fairly well, and is a beast of a rebounder. And he's certainly not "ball-dominant."
We have only 1 experienced big man in Big Z to back up 2 positions. What if there foul trouble or god forbid an injury. Thats not the same thing as having 2 bodies. Big Z backing up the 5 and someone like Ben backing up the 4 and Z to help as needed. I just hope Tomi, Z or Mirk dont go down or miss nig games. If so then what? Thats a big part of roster construction that seems risky. I hope we add a big guy. Some fans won't be happy until we have signed at least 7 lead guards, 3rd string 4s and 5s that would start on a lower-tier tournament team, and 17 wings that can shoot the three, guard, and drive it to the hoop.
