The question with Morillo isn't whether he is a traditional 4/PF. He isn't, but that is also completely irrelevant. BH wasn't either btw.

Thw question is whether he can competently guard the opponent's 4 or equivalent from time to time to spell Mirk without putting us at a huge disadvantage. I would guess the answer is not an absolute in either direction but is going to be matchup and situation dependent.

Mirk is going to play a lot of minutes. The backup minutes at that position will be under 10 mpg (maybe half that) and I imagine a portion of those will be double Ivisic lineups. When people say Morillo might get time at the 4, they're not talking about a lot of time.
I just don’t see how it will be Morillo who needs to be that person. Z, Jake and Andrej, in that order would get those backup minutes. I’ll be stunned if Morillo plays any 4.

Don’t care about the insider thoughts on this one.

Those around in '89 did. Bardo was capable of guarding all 5 positions. While he frequently hounded the opposing PG, he also guarded opposing bigs.

That's a big reason he was so valuable on a team with a very short frontline.
Everyone guarded everybody on that team. They literally switched all 5 guys. They were all 6’5-6’7.

Guys. 6'2 Boswell successfully guarded 4s on multiple occasions last year.

Being sarcastic because folks around here were losing their minds that 6'7 Morillo could/would ever need to guard a 4.
No one lost their mind about that. They correctly opined that he would not even be needed to. Which he will not be needed to do.

Come on dude. This is just....come on. He won't get to 1/4 of what Coach K accomplished. Not a snowballs chance in Phoenix in July.
3ish championships and a better overall win % if he stays there the next 20 years are very doable since they have the number 1 class year in and year out. Even a bad coach can win with that.

Of course thats all built on what coach k did but the programs primed for success starting from the top.

Longevity probably won't be there. Just doesn't happen anymore.

You really don’t think so?

Coach K made 13 final fours in 42 years. That’s one final four every 3.2 years. Jon has coached at Duke for 4 years and has one final four (nearly two, of course). He’s 38 years old. Coach K retired at 75. If Jon retired at the same age, that would be 41 years of coaching. Could Jon not get to 3 more fours in the next 36 years? He’s made the E8 or better the past 3 years in a row with a final KenPom rating of 7, 1, and 3.

He would need 12 more final fours, not 3 to get to 13

Definitely think it's possible with JS should he want to coach and coach in the college game that long.

Think you hit most all the talking points. Not unreasonable to think IMO JS can have similar career win % as Coach K (believe he stands right now with 1/2% higher than Coach K)

If he improves his outside shot just a little bit and sees the floor a bit better, it is not hard to envision him as a 1st round pick next season. He is a good athlete, fantastic driver/create own shot, and a plus defender already.
I agree with all of this. He knocked down a decent number of threes, but always seemed hesitant to launch one even when he had an open look. Tentative I guess you would say. If he can gain confidence in that shot and be bold about putting it up, he could be a complete player.

Just watched Kitt highlights; I think we're gonna love this guy. He needs to get bigger and stronger, but for a player so young, that's to be expected. He may even grow another inch or two. He can score at all three levels and seemed to be an unselfish player; made some superb passes to teammates.

You've brought it up across multiple threads.
It's also weird to reference how correct you were in the third person.

I think there's going to be an ever hotter seat if he's not in the championship game this year or next. Elite resources come with elite demands.

Also considering he's already making googly eyes at the NBA it seems unlikely that he will stay that long if he wins a title.

Well, Scheyer has been more successful in his first 4 years than coach K was is in last 4 years. And given the players Scheyer recruits - I don't see Duke dropping anytime soon. I am uncertain where you get your hyperbole, but going to three elite 8's, a final 4, winning an ACC tournament and 2 regular season titles is more than 95% of all coaches achieve in a career.

But comparing him to the third most successful coach in NCAA history at age 38? I don't even understand why anyone could or would attempt such a comparison.

Just out of curiosity, given that Scheyer is from Northbrook have you ever met him?
