Cole Kelly has to be the guy for us.
If you're Duke, all you have to do to talk yourself into staying the course is glance over at UNC or UK and see how possible it is to swing and miss in a coaching search even with the blueblood pedigree and the resources.
Feels like a Dook type recruit....kind of like Scheyer was. Would love to have him though.
Jon Scheyer, who is tied for the best W-L % in mens' college basketball HISTORY (Mark Few) right now, being on any hot seat is certainly a take.
Let's all agree to stop including IU in this category. That program is the furthest thing from college basketball royalty in modern day.

Yes, what is the amount of time needed to be removed from the Blue Blood category? Even UCLA is pushing it, but at least they've been to a Final Four in recent memory. IU has done nothing.
The Duke fans I know hate him and don't think he can coach, fyi. If they are saying that and there is enough big money with the same thoughts, then it is possible.
Completely agree that fanbases (and administrators) are dumb and Duke is just as likely to end up with a Pope as a Hurley.
I don't think that will stop them from rabble rousing if JS makes it to year 5 without a championship game appearance.
(Completely unrelated and relevant to point 1...IU and UCLA have been replaced by Zona, UConn and arguably FL are more apt if we're talking about blue bloods)
Is Ty really still that bad on offense? I’m genuinely curious (especially what the insiders have to say re: practice). It’s been two years since we’ve seen him in game. I recall Mirk (near end of the season) lamenting being matched up in a shooting drill with Ty and two others (maybe Davis, one other). Perhaps it was just the others that were a problem but it caught my attention that he labeled Ty a “good shooter.”
I hope they do fire him- I think there's a better chance they regress rather than improve
It's a win either way when including them just shows how much they don't belong

I think UConn just did that in ‘23 and ‘24. Those were “all timers” — dominant teams that had enough carryover to be viewed singularly. Not ‘06/‘07 Florida carryover, but enough of the main rotation stayed imo.

There were many fans and at least one insider on this board who hated BU and didn't think he could coach as of about a month-and-a-half ago. Fan sentiment and rationality don't always go hand-in-hand.
Speaking of Ty did he catch on with anybody? I might of missed it
Is it possible that in a redshirt year, followed by a rehab year, where he has player exactly zero seconds of competition that wasn't closely supervised in practice....that he improved his shooting to the point where he's respectable? I guess that's debatable.
What we know for a fact is that in the two years that he played, he's 0-1 from three and a 52.1% foul shooter.
Would you be able to guarantee him significant minutes in a season where you're all in on getting to a Final Four, bringing back ever major piece of last year's team that isn't a lottery pick or out of eligibility and the offensive philosophy is five out?
If you were BU, could you tell him that he's more than just a role player?
More importantly, if you're Ty, do you want to be a 10 minute per game guy with only two years of eligibility left? Heck no. He wants to play and be a key figure. Given his circumstances, that's probably at a mid major. He's still available as a transfer and isn't considered a high profile one. Once those who entered the draft, then remove their names concludes....what's left will be his options.
He's not in a great spot with regards to a career in basketball. Who's going to pay money for a guy who has those numbers, then has significant injury history and hasn't played in two years?
It sucks for Ty because if he was a 35% shooter before the injury, someone would have taken a chance. There is absolutely no major team that is going to give him guaranteed minutes based on practice video. That includes us.

He runs the risk of sitting on the bench at another school for way less $$$
JMO - stay at Illinios and be ready. Its a long season typically with more than few injuries and sickness. Depending on chemistry significant playing time could open up ala Keaton and Mirkovic. I am hoping Ty has improved a lot on offense.
