Yeah, Vaaks needs to be much better on that end, but I think he can at least be serviceable. He's not a terrible athlete, and has great length. He has the things you can't teach... He needs more of the things you can. Providence was one of the worst defensive teams in the country last year. It's really difficult to stay committed to defense when no one else is playing it. Effort is contagious, but not nearly as contagious as a lack of it.

Brad isn't going to let Jake Davis sit for very long if Vaaks or Coleman aren't busting their tails on defense. He may not be the most talented guy on the roster, but we know Jake comes to play. They will learn the standard in practice this summer, or they will learn it from the bench this Fall.
If were relying on jake to be a defensive stopper or lead our defense this season were in big trouble. Jake does some nice things on the court but defense is definitely not one of them I'm not to saying he won't improve in that area but he truly lacks foot speed and athleticism and bites on pump fakes quite a bit.i think defensively this season were going to have to hope dre really takes a step up this season otherwise we might be relying on qc or morillo to step in a big roll this season.which is kinda scary relying on freshman or improved defense from dre. The offense is definitely going to have carry the defense hopefully we can add a couple more forced turnovers or absolutely dominate the glass this season

I think Millers defense was really good for a freshmen but he also played alongside some of the best defenders we’ve had recently. That helped him look a lot better on that side of the ball.

I think it’s entirely possible QC is a better individual defender than Miller was. Vaaks we need to just not be downright awful. Even in some of his highlight clips his defense is suspect.

In reality, it’s going to be even rougher this year on that end. I have faith the returners can be even better and Andrej can become a lockdown guy, but we’re going to need across the board improvement to replace Ben and Kylan.

He won't be.

What do any of you know about Hamad Mousa of Cal Poly, who's still in the transfer portal? Mousa is listed as a 6'8", 200-pound Sophomore. One site lists him as a Guard {more likely), another has him listed as a PF. Mousa played his first season at Dayton, averaging only 7.8 minutes/game. He then transferred to Caly Poly for the 25-26 season, where he averaged 20.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and 2.0 apg, while shooting 44.3% on FGS, 37.2% on 3-pointers, and 87.8% on FTs. Mousa, born in Doha, Qatar, played in 32 games for Cal Poly, starting in 30, and averaged 31.3 minutes/game. I'm just wondering why no school/team has added Mousa via the transfer portal. And I'm hoping someone might know if Mousa has some sort of fatal flaw? Like an injury? Difficult personality? Asking for too much money? A hole in his game? I'm just curious. Those are some pretty good numbers for a player who's only a Sophomore, with two years of eligibility remaining. Thanks in advance for any additional information you might have on this young man.

I like having him on the team, but if we're expecting Jake to come in and be the defensive stopper, that's a problem simply based off his defense from this past season.
I'm not suggesting he will be a stopper, but if guys are loafing or not bought in, he will at least show them how to give a sh... and Brad won't hesitate to use him.

Jake's defensive plus/minus was the same as Boswell and Tomi's last year... (3.1) Certainly not an ace, but not the sieve some are making him out to be.

Jake is not subbing in to play the PG (Vaaks) and is also unlikely he subs in much at the 2 for Coleman. I dont expect Jake to play anything much other than the 3...certainly not on defense. To equate his d to boswell as have an equal effect is just nonsense.

Forget Adam Miller (COMPLETELY!). I'm expecting QC to have a better freshman year than Keaton Wagler!
That is a ridiculous expectation to set. Our program has brought in players with more hype than Quentin who made a small fraction of the impact that Keaton made during their freshman seasons. Heck, Kiwane Garris had one of the best frosh seasons I can remember before that, and as incredible as Kiwane played for us, his freshman season didn't come close to what Keaton brought to the table last year. Keaton is a once in a generation type of player who had a once in a generation-type of season to lead us to the final four for the first time in 20 years. If QC has 60% of the impact Keaton had, he will have had a wildly successful campaign in Orange and Blue.

Davion Thompson was tearing it up for Meanstreets before USA basketball tryouts. Are we (still) recruiting him?
