Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

When I see us miss the top 4 for a top 25 kid who grew up 2 hours from campus and played with our 1a/b target for the 28 class (possibly 27), I think it's a bummer.

You're welcome to think what you will.
Long been said that we were not going to sign him. Don't know if the disinterest was one-sided or mutual.

This guy was mentioned as an option as well...although I have to believe there will be A LOT of competition for his services.
I think Anderson would be fine reclassing and playing this year. Dude looks like a grown man.

I love OA for all that he's done for the program and the kids he's brought in over the years, but over the more recent past it seems like he's been less and less involved/effective on the recruiting side. We all know that Hamer is the #1 AC recruiter in the nation (/s), but what has OA done for us lately?

I would love for him to be able to help us land a kid like this from his backyard.

Insiders - any insight on this recruit and OA's role on the staff in general? Am I just uninformed of what he's been contributing?
Not exactly in the loop but I believe he brought in Tomislav and then Mirk and Big Z last year.

Also, I'm pretty sure Morillo is his with him playing for the Dominican Republic and being from the northeast.

Illinois needs to start looking more at replacing their frontline players and landing a few top bigs here down the line. Would love to see a talented athletic big come to the Illini. I firmly believe OA will be earning his money and is all over this.

Wouldn’t ZZ be another example

He’s unranked in the ESPN 100 (and listed as a 3 star)
136 on Rivals
125 on 247

but is 104 in the composite.
I'm not arguing ranking. It is of course mathematically possible that a composite ranking has you higher than the individual rankings, depending on how the others around you do.

I'm talking about the score. The star rating is based on score, not rank. That is why some years have more 5-stars than others. It should not be possible to have a 5-star composite score without any of the individual rankings giving you a 5-star score.

Think of it like this. You get Bs on every single exam in a class where the overall score is based solely on exams. I get an A+ on one exam. Can you have a better overall score than me in the class? Sure, if I do poorly on the other exams. Can you get an A+ in the class? No, you can't.

will Jake Davis shoot a higher percentage from 3 than milan next year? I say yes!
If he does then it's certainly going to be because of very low volume. Milan is the best shooter in the country, not much of a discussion.

Iowa State's roster is hideous. They'll be good defensively, but it's a bummer to lose a guy like that (on top of all the seniors who graduated).

milan is awesome but I think regression from last year has to be expected at least percentage wise, likely due to even more usage on Kentucky than last year. and I just can see Jake knowing his spots really well this year and maximizing his percentage on lower volume of course and I'm viewing him orange tinted eyes so I can't be wrong!

Milan 46% from 3
Jake Davis 48% from 3

Honestly kind of idea for Illinois.

Momcilovic wasn't coming here and now he goes to a dead at Kentucky. They will be ok(hang around in the 15-25 range) but not a real threat imo.

Happy he didn't end up in Arizona.
Milan ending up anywhere outside the big ten is a win for Illinois.

Really don't care about the out of conference rosters. Just want the Big Ten Title as winnable as possible.

My biggest sigh of relief this offseason - Illinois or other team - is when Morez stayed in the draft and Juke Harris went to TENN. If you add those two to the current roster, they'd lose 2 reg. season games AT MAX.

Now I think they're overrated to start the year, fresh off the natty kool aid.

As for us - Stojakovic leaving was never a chance (despite some moronic takes), Coleman committed during the season, Vaaks committed in like 10 hours of us knowing his name.... and Blackwell wasn't meant to me. Not a ton of "sigh of relief" moments to be had in that regard. Everything was wrapped up by April 17th.

Coleman could absolutely be a 1st round pick averaging 10 points per game, because it'll be along with great defense, rebounding, and high 30s 3pt%.

It's because of his AGE - just like all the guys at Duke and Kentucky over the years. You don't have to have huge scoring numbers.

Vaaks will be 22, so he'll have to show alot more.

Andrej will be 22.

Ivisic twins will be 24.

To me QC is far and away the likeliest draft pick.

The downside is Jake doesn’t look for his shot enough. He attempted 5 in the last 4 games of the season.
