Jason is the 12th man. Hasn’t proven to be playable in his time here.
Its not about that. Its about need at the 4/5. BU even said to Werner that JJ was about to start playing "alot" and the the clot happened. Now i dont know about a lot but no way will he be 12th in minutes. No way unless he is ill. Not many minutes behind Dre and Jake at the 3. Or Vaaks n Coleman at the PG and 2. I think Lucas gets both those slots at the 2/3. Not many that can play the PG either. Also, when JJ has played has filled a role, shot just fine but we dont need that from him. We need him to rebound which he has done very well plus defend behind Mirk and Z. No one other T can do that vs good teams. I dont know where people see many minutes for anyone really outside the top 7 unless its a blow out but if a Big has fouls JJ will be first off the bench at the 4/5 after the T,Z , and Mirk.

USC has a better roster than Illinois and likely the best roster in the big ten. Doesn’t mean they’ll finish ahead of us, but fair to point it out.

not on my bingo card, but all for it

kid has some VG attributes. good for him to accept the challenge (cause a lot of kids wouldn't)
I love him.

Could never see a minute in an Illinois uniform but at least he'd still provide the added value of shutting down the ninth man conversations..

We don't need a second big off the bench with how we are going to play ...

The Maryland game last year proved Jakstys can't play at this level ... Great practice player ... That's his role ...

We have 11 guys on this years roster that are Big Ten caliber competing for 8 spots ... Mirk, AS, Tomi, Jake Davis, Z, Vaaks, Coleman, Zens, Brown, Morillo, Williams

Out of rotation/Redshirt/Practice Squad = Fagbemi, Jakstys, Landon Davis
Having 11 quality guys will do nothing but help. Practices will be ULTRA competitive, and we shouldn’t be in a situation where we are playing a total of 6 guys in a Big Ten game.

I did not enjoy that experience.

This has been cited repeatedly, and I just don't how it's all so credible.

It's like when Mirk said Toni Billic was "awesome" and there were posts here about him starting on next year's team (literally).

I mean what else is he supposed to say?

5/ T, Z maybe Mirk or JJ in a pinch
4/ Mirk, Z maybe JJ
3/ Dre, Jake, Lucas or maybe Zens
2/ QC, Lucas, Dre
1 / Vaaks, QC

Id expect those to be the roles and rankings of playing time at each position. Any player ranked outside of the top 2 at any spot may not even play in close games unless fouls are an issue. I feel that we are very deep at the 3 so minutes will be sparce behind Dre & Jake but not many guys will play the 1, 4, 5 spots either or maybe even the 2 if QC is as good as he looks and Vaaks too then they both may get around 30 or more minutes a game in tight games. How many guys will play more than 25 or so minutes a game. I expect all the top 6 to if not more in close games and that wont leave much for the rest. I hope we have a lot of blow outs so the guys outside the top 7 can be somewhat happy and play more minutes.
It seems like the staff have indicated this for some time now but with regards to backup 4s and frontcourt/backcourt, it seems like the current roster configuration gives as much fluidity as any over the past few years for having the 5 best players on the floor for a given situation, rather than focusing on having a traditional 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 each on the floor at a given time. This roster has like 8 guys between 6'4"-6'7" at 180-220 lbs who can shoot and distribute, and playing time will come down to how much they can add defensively and rebounding. On top of that you have 3 250+ lb bigs that can distribute and guard the paint.

I think in most cases, we'll simply be seeing the best guys in a given situation/matchup which will be determined once they have everyone practicing together.

No one asked Brad to say it or even about him in particular. Did you watch the interview? Werner asked about the frontcourt bigs and Brad mentioned only 4 guys in order with JJ being the last. He didnt mention anyone else. Now i dont expect him to play most close games unless there are foul issues for the core 3 guys. There is no 9th man to back up the 4/5. There is no one like Ben at all on D after those guys. Teams wont put in little guys to guard our front court and vs good teams we wont put them in to cover guys like Pherrell Payne and others. I hope we dont have injury or foul troubles down low. I think our wings are great and if someone goes down we still have options at the 3.

I agree with you. I think it will primarily be 7 or 8 guys in close games barring foul trouble. I do think there are roles though for ball handling and D. I expect the 3 bigs at the 4/5, Dre and Jake eating up 90% at the 3 then Lucas for a couple, QC, Dre and a couple more for Lucas at the 2 and Vaaks and QC all the PG minutes with Mirk playing point forward a lot when Vaaks is out. I doubt they go much deeper than those guys very much unless there is foul trouble. I do think we blow out or expand to comfirtable leads, which will happen a lot then of course guys will play
