He's been strongly rumored to Zona.
I'm wondering what the selling point is at Illinois - perhaps playing him as a stretch 5 offensively. Zona and Brad have about as different two systems get.

And having a skilled big like Mirk be a featured piece and blow up probably doesn't hurt. They have the history with showcasing top tier lead guards and now can show a guy like Wabbington that BU can really highlight his skillset.

Money, 40 minutes of playing time up for grabs at center, playing for a team that was just in the final 4 and has made the elite 8 in 2 out of the last 3 seasons, 4 first round draft picks in the past 3 years, Antigua development, #1 offense in college basketball, passionate fan base, etc...
This is in no way meant to diminish my excitement of the Wabbington news, and purely asking because I don’t know much about positional recruitment outside of what I hear on this forum. But is the return on a High School Center recruit expected to be realized in his sophomore season and beyond? How well do freshman bigs do in comparison to other positions?
Reason for asking, is I know some in the past here had concerns for MSUs highly touted freshman bigs coming in, claiming at this position it’s harder for freshman to make big impacts and be star players over say, Veteran transfers. Are incoming freshman centers slightly more along the lines of “projects” than other positions like G and F?
Again, can’t stress enough that I’m not diminishing my, or even trying to diminish, excitement. This is an utter home-run if we bring him here, and him arriving early is huge. Just trying to better understand College Basketball recruitment and strategies, because of the MSU discourse and their need for guys like Kohler and Cooper to try to come back after 5-in-5.

Bigger and better Coleman Hawkins
Coleman Hawkins is the 1st name that came to mind when watching his hlghlights too. Looks like how Coleman Hawkins looked in his Jr year in college as a HS senior. The skill level and passing are elite. Add body by Fletch and the final product is scary.
AND Fletch! This guy clearly isn’t the chiseled athletic freak, so just imagine him after an offseason or two with Fletch.
Reminds me of Brian Cook with a touch of Auggie.

It’s exciting stuff. Trotter did point out that it’s entirely possible we’re actually a worse version of ourselves on both ends of the floor. That’s a fair take when you’re losing Wagler's wizadry and Bam’s perimeter D...But on paper, Vaaks and Coleman give us the luxury of legitimately putting four shooting threats on the floor at once. I think that's where our real magic lies. The only time our offense had flashes of looking clunky-ish we're when teams learned they could sag off Bam & Dre. We should be ultra-spacey, which is just a freaking nightmare for teams having to worry about matchup hunting with Dre, Vaaks, and Mirk.
Freshmen bigs, unless they are advanced, usually take time to figure things out, more than any other position other than maybe PG.
As for the sell, I'm thinking about it as it compares to Zona specifically. Krivas is likely gone, so PT, $$ and all the other peripherals are there. My take on watching him is that he's not a traditional center, likes to step out and shoot. That is not something Lloyd's system does with centers and could be the biggest sell.
