More about Hatcher, if all comes to fruition.

Edit: seems like a tough kid. Would be a good add too.
Nice article. Check out below Alabama's QB room in 2018. I think we can afford to add Hatcher and even 1-2 others to the mix in 2022:

With a bit of a Baker Mayfield streak, Hatcher decided to pass on the Red Wolves in favor of a preferred walk-on offer at Alabama. He joined an all-time great QB room in 2018 that included Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones – Jones was a fellow scout-team QB at the time.

I want Nathan Scheelhasse. His resume mirrors Ryan Walter's in so many ways. Plus, he can recruit and coach the position. Young, motivating, and a I spiritual inspiration to his players. Let him loose and calling plays. BB has plenty of offensive coaches on the sideline to help if needed. I personally believe it wouldn't though! Bring Nathan back to Champaign. All reports nationwide indicate he's the next great young coach. Pull a Notre Dame. I believe it will pay off.

It's a Pink Floyd kind evening, brother, for Illini football and hoops:

Lunney's impressive profile at UTSA https://goutsa.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/barry-lunney-jr-/1052

highlighting his High School coaching stint:

"Before returning to the Razorbacks, Lunney served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Bentonville High School from 2005-13.

In his eight years at Bentonville, the Tigers won 78 games, including 25 straight in 2010-11, played in four state championship games, claiming state titles in 2008 and 2010, and won six straight 7A West Conference crowns from 2007-12. Bentonville played in three 7A state championship games and won at least 12 games in four of his last five seasons.

Bentonville quarterback Dallas Hardison broke the Arkansas state single-season completion percentage record in 2010 and bettered the record in 2011 under the direct guidance of Lunney. In 2011 and 2012, the Tigers won their first 12 games to advance to the state championship game with an offense that averaged 42.5 and 36.8 points per game, respectively.

The 2010 Bentonville team finished the season 13-0 and won the 7A state championship. The offense averaged 47.0 points per game and scored at least 40 points nine times, including 49 points in the semifinal round and the state championship game."

Except Walters had years of play calling experience before coming here…..Nate non. Nate has all the makings to be a great HC someday don’t get me wrong but still way to green to be let loose with P5 play calling responsibilities

He's around where his boss was in age and experience when he got the same sort of chance.

Someone is going to take the chance in order to add what Nate brings as a recruiter to their staff. That doesn't sound like the kind of decision Bielema would make though.

As always with these sort of suggestions, an important thing to keep straight, that ex-Illini's ties to the program are OUR pitch to HIM, not HIS pitch to US. We don't care where a coach played. If we're smart.

I agree, but after watching Bama and Georgia destroy Michigan and Cinncy. I went and looked at the coaching staffs. This is why I made joke to hire Jason Garrett. Seems like all SEC programs have fired NFL coaches calling their plays OC..., but great recruiters surrounding them,. 😆...
I looked at BB's 1st staff so impressive IMO , with the ? of Peterson. I looked at our Defense improve this year. Ryan did call some Defense at Missery, but always with help! Now he's let loose and his pay increase is well deserved. That's my thought process. I do agree with you would be a bit of a gamble. But I hear Brett likes Vegas!

I agree a hundred percent I don't care that he played for us I mean I do care. But I care about the fact of what a coach he's become a recruiter in the developer of players and if you don't think he could call plays as a quarterback who threw for eleven thousand yards and rushed for 3000 yards you don't know football I'm not saying you I'm saying the average fan. I know Nathan can call plays and at some point someone is going to take a chance on him and it's going to cost us in my opinion!

If I'm reading this correctly he's already transferred twice. Just recently in December.
Yes, committed to Texas State Bobcats on Dec. 12th. While it might seem sketchy, can he reenter the portal again? Who'd blame a kid for going after a starting chance with a Power 5 school (he did turn down his only scholarship offer out of H.S. (Arkansas State) to be a PWO at Alabama)?

Had acceptable numbers at Arkansas State this past season, although would like to see INT number lower and completion % higher (although his 58.9% rate would be a step up from Illini QBs combined 51.2% this past season).
