I wonder just how angry that made him. I don't remember him ever being the type to directly comment on something disrespecting him, but he let Bilas know what he thought. Own these fools, Kofi.
Did he reply to the post?

I will be in downtown Indianapolis Friday evening. Are there any Illini-friendly bars anybody knows of where i can watch the game? (unfortunately Michigan fans will be in town)

Certain coaches seem to always under perform in the tournament. Bill Self is one of them. If not for Chalmer, he probably already lost that job. Underwood looks like a smart, reasonable person with some flexibility. I hope he learned his lesson from last year and be more prepared. He was not ready for the Loyola defense. I blamed him instead of the players.

If they used instant replay in the KU/Memphis game, that three pointer would have been called a 2 as Chalmers toe was on the line. But you are right, Self under performs as they have lost early to Bradley, Bucknell, Nothern Iowa, Stanford and Wichita State in the first or second round as a high seed

Not picking on you Dub..... Couple issues.

Great guard play absolutely tends to get you to the FF. That's where our biggest problem lies. Frazier and Plummer (seniors),seem to disappear for parts of games and Belo has been spotty. Agree with you that Belo has a new chance to play like the pre season AA he received votes for.

If we have a rematch with Zona, they will be favored by close to 10 points (as they should be) They bullied us in Champaign and only our lights out 3 point shooting made it close.

We can win it all if we play hard and smart the EVERY game. Hoping BU has a few surprises he's been holding back. ILL!!

I get it....I'm basing it on our guards potential. We are a much different team now. A ready for prime time Belo and an energized CoHawk changes that matchup tremendously. I won't guess the spread....but in my mind...it's absolutely a toss up. On top of that.....I'm not convinced Arizona waltzes into the SS either.

All of this talk of a run...for any team....obviously hinges on them playing at the top end of their potential for 4+ games.

I've sorta tuned out since the disappointing Indiana loss.

As I finally check-in once again in advance of Friday night, it seems this might be our most disrespected NCAA tourney team ever. I notice that Seth Davis was trashing us again, and talking about Chatanooga's pending upset in tonight's pre-game show.

I'll just assume it's a good omen in that it may change our luck -- given all the bulletin board material Underwood is collecting this week.

Good, more bulletin board material to motivate our guys. Us against the world!

Agree... "Sometimes" is fair. He's better, but still not great. When he's indecisive and the ball sticks...he brings it down and that's where the turnover happens. If he were to ever become decisive with passing out of the post or be decisive and turn and go up strong, with purpose....he'd be literally unstoppable. His misses are so excruciating because they're point blank shots that he tries to finesse instead of dunking it.

Nailed it!!!

I've said it a number of times on here but it needs to be said again, Jay Bilas is easily the most smug/arrogant condescending commentator I've ever had to listen to (and that's saying something with all the incompetent bozos that ESBSPN has hired over the years)

I'm sincerely hoping this pic has been photo shopped (can't believe everything you see on the internet after all) but honestly I wouldn't doubt that a smug dbag like Bilas would wear something so tone deaf and obnoxiously arrogant.

I'm sure his book is one of the most cringe worthy pieces of crap books ever written as well haha.
Could you imagine having to hang out with this arrogant loser? lol he has the most punchable face I've seen and is probably just bitter and miserable that he went totally bald.

I checked out some vids of Malachi Smith when people were being cryptic about a guard transfer. Averaging 20 ppg and from Illinois, he made sense. After watching some videos my thoughts were, it's not him. I just didn't see the footspeed. He's obviously talented. You have to be to score 20 ppg at the Division 1 level. But I just don't see him getting 20 on our All Big Ten defensive team player.

Below is a video of his highest point total of the season against the only team they've played that made the tournament. Talented, but he's not someone that is going to break you down. He does a lot of scoring in the paint. So if Trent keeps him out of the paint and Kofi is down there waiting for him, it will be much harder than he is used to.

I’m putting Damonte on him

You are right. Bill made lots of 1st wk exit. I certainly hope Brad is better than that.

Not shockingly, I agree with everything LaTulip said. I think he is basically saying, these guys should be pretty easy to guard. They've all got pretty glaring limitations that we should be able to exploit.

On the other side of the court, I see another major problem for them. Another reason De Sousa is only playing 20 mpg is because he is averaging 2.7 fouls per game, 3.2 on the road apparently. And he hasn't been playing many 1st team All Americans this season. If you get him in foul trouble, the only other big guy they have that plays is 6'10" 255 but slow. He only sees 10 mpg and is getting 5 and 2.

I think if we get De Sousa out of the game, they're going to have a ton of trouble stopping us on offense. A zone would make sense for them to try and help him out on Kofi, but the other guys that play are only 6'6" - 6'7". Not sure how much that will help on Kofi. And of course, if Plummer is hot, he can make your zone look really bad.

A zone D might be just what the doctor ordered to get Plummer's shooting stroke back on track for what we need to have a big run in NCAAs

KOfi also has to stay out of foul trouble. You know the way Chat will go is right after Kofi to get him to foul. We have Omar and BBV. Hawk can play the 5. So we have options. Go ILLINI!

Seems to me that one striking advantage the beloved has is that in the tournament we are playing against teams that have never experienced quite what we present. Sure, they all have played against typical three point shooters, slashers, and post players, but the things that make our guys a bit different is likely an advantage due to uniqueness from each. Sure, there are lots of guys that are terrific players, but a few of our guys I think will surprise our opponents based on what they’re really good at.
In AC teams have not experienced playing against his uniqueness. There is no one that is 6’ tall that lives in the paint like he does. His ability to break down the defense, get into the paint, and then either finish or dish with incredible vision and passing.
In KC, I think it will be a shock as to his sheer strength, size, and power. He can wear down defenders like none other. Sure they all have faced the prototypical big man….but I would surmise that until you start trying to bang with and move Kofi, you just don’t get how dominating he can be.
Plummer not only is a three point shooter, but gets those shots off so quickly. He creates space, has tremendous elevation on his threes, but does so really quickly. Not common.
CH is pure energy and crazy quick twitch explosiveness for rebounding and shot blocking, it can also shoot the three.
“Elite” defense from TF and DW. Likely will be very disruptive to a teams normal flow. We all know TF dominates a teams best player on D…probably a nightmare for him to be glued to the opposing player.
I think playing teams multiple times in the B1G regular season and B1G tournament helps our opponents know what to expect since they’ve experienced these unique qualities multiple times.
Maybe I’m over thinking things, but it seems to me most of our guys with consistent tick have something that is way different from many or most guys playing their respective positions. Hope that theory pans out to be indeed advantage Illinois.
Expecting an Illini victory that is not a nail biter. Then onto a Houston team that we can handle, albeit a more challenging game.
