I agree it likely won't happen though.

While I do kinda wonder what kind of powerhouse he could have turned Illinois into if Roy Williams didn't leave for UNC after originally turning it down. We realistically probably would have gotten the death penalty if he stayed long term for violations they would sweep under the rug at a blue blood.
Or if Guenther would have forked over $50,000.00 more

I think you're forgetting how good Henson and Kruger were. We've known for generations that we could (should) be a basketball power. No one, not even Self, has been able to quite get us over that ledge to a championship.
I’m not forgetting anything. Self built on what Lou and Lon did … and had us at a level at which we expect to be. No one knows how it would’ve turned out if he’d stayed longer … but to me the arrow was pointing up (hence, the disappointment when he left). Not sure which way it was pointing for you.

Not Kruger. His last two recruiting classes pretty much soured me on believing he could recruit outside of 100 miles.

Henson of course yes.

Self would’ve gotten us there. Remember that we had Charlie Villanueva coming in and when Weber came in, there was zero chance he was staying. Self had recruiting at a level we had never seen before and haven’t since. This is most likely because Self knew (and knows) how to operate in the gray area. Had he stayed, it would’ve been us who would’ve had run ins with the FBI. But we might’ve had a national title or two, and that would’ve made it all worth it.

Plenty of reasons to love this event. Selfishly, high up there for me is all the over-reaction, hot takes we’ll see on here — win or lose.

As for Self, up to about 10 years ago — OK, maybe more like 5 — I would have been firmly in the boo him camp. Guess I’m finally over it and actually find myself almost liking him to the point that under the right circumstances I could root for him and Kansas. So save the lungs for cheering on the Illini and, of course, booing Hunter cuz the right circumstances don’t include a team with Hunter on it.
I would boo Self in a game that counted. I will never root for KU. I hope he has recovered from his health issue from last year

Him leaving Illinois is not the reason and I understand why he left and I don’t hold that aspect against him.

How he has recruited over the years is the main reason. The fact the NCAA did not punish him

In fairness, that's more of a reason to boo the NCAA than Self.

My first reaction as well, haha. Honestly based on what he tried doing to our program (stealing away Dee and Deron) while leaving I personally can't cheer for him and I personally think he's deserving of some boos. That said, he certainly didn't have to come back to Champaign and this will be for a good cause, and it's exhibition. So, I'd like a good strong boo followed by a cheer along with a cheer for Kansas' players aside for Hunter who I'd love to see the crowd troll by having no response whatsoever and going dead silent.

Not included in my season tickets, not available yet either. Hopefully not a lottery...
I looked at some documentation that I have and Illinois sold more than 11,000 season tickets in 2021-22. Illinois is also going to allocate more tickets to Kansas than they usually do to a visiting team. It will be interesting to see how Illinois allocates tickets to premium seat holders and season ticket holders and who gets moved to seats that are not as good as their current season ticket seats. It seems like one's IFUND level will also play into the seat allocation process.

It’ll be a great crowd but this is an exhibition game - this isn’t going to be a sellout without giving tickets sways for free.

I think you would be surprised. If u don’t think KU fans won’t travel. Normally when an exhibition game is played it is against a nobody. This is different and for a good cause. I could sea local businesses buying tickets and giving them away

One of the best possible Illini teams of all time was derailed by the slush fund scandal .Why would anyone think a national title would be worth that. Is it okay to cheat if you win?

I have had a couple of friends already ask me about tickets since they know I have season tickets. I think a lot of people want to see Self's return to the Assembly Hall and Hunter one last time.

If you’re the only one cheating, then no. But if others are cheating, regularly winning AND those in charge aren’t enforcing the rules, then playing by the rules is a fools errand.
