It’s only cheating when you get caught. When you get caught you deal with the punishment. Depending on the nature of the offense depends on the public opinion of how bad the cheating was
Self situation is different. He cheated and there were supposedly text messages showing he knew what adidas rep was doing. The rep went to jail. Self got nothing.
The problem is the NCAA because Self should have been punished.
And while we are talking NCAA failures for punishment Pitino shouldn’t be allowed to coach at the college level

Not to mention all of those bogus classes at North Carolina.....that the NCAA said was an internal issue with NC and basically let the Tar Heels administration handle the uh...uh....cough..cough....punishment

I believe that somewhere in the Illini fandom handbook it states that this is a requirement to maintain fandom, and not optional.
I would be happier never seeing, reading, or hearing his name again.

I don't think Bill Self should be booed, but I don't think he should be allowed in for free. If he's going to set foot in Champaign again, he's going to have toupée. I'll see myself out.
I wonder how the 2 coaches will handle and approach this game, since it's an exhibition charity type game and will not count?? Will it be like a glorified practice? Hey, Bill...I'd like for you to full court press some to see how our guards handle the pressure....and maybe a little half court trap on a few possessions.....no problem Brad....and Brad could you zone us a few possessions so we can work on our ball movement and zone offense with Hunter in the middle now...and maybe fast break some so we can see how we're geting back on the defensive end after a missed shot? Sure Bill...and lets make sure no one gets hurt in this one. Or will it be balls to the wall ...all out effort as if it were mid season type of play???

Kansas and Illinois are both matching up against highly rated squads just 2 weeks after the exhibition (Kentucky and Marquette), so I expect both teams to handle it very much like a regular game for best prep possible.

He should have stuck around collecting NIL for his senior year and his bonus covid year. Dude would be an absolute Illinois legend or he could have transferred to any school in the country if they offered more NIL.
