Kolek just limped to the locker room after rolling his ankle. Hate to see it, but it may matter in the next game.

I'm not sure it will matter, based on how the Illini just looked.

I am hoping this game will show all the doubters...which after 2 games is hilarious, that an older team, like it or not, is more likely to play up to their competition. IMO, because of the years of experience and not always a good thing, they know when the lights are on. We got older for a reason and I think win or lose we are about to see those results.

Well, do we come out for this one like we did against Kansas or do we come out like we have the last two games? If it's the latter, it'll be a heck of a game. If it's the former, it's going to be tough sledding.

Need to guard the three point line. Last year we had a time of trouble with switches, fighting through high ball screens and stopping penetration and kick out threes. There were a lot of career games against us. It's a new year, hoping it's not the same issues.

After only 2 games, it's hard to have a good read on this one.

Regarding the IL offense, I tried to look at our season stats so far. I also looked after adding the KU game, since it was played like it counted and the competition was very good. (I didn't count Ottawa though.)

Since TSJ and CH both played well in the KU game, adding that game obviously helped them. They were #1 and #2 percentagewise on 3s so far this season (done in that way), so it's hard not to continue to give CH the green light on open 3s, despite him not hitting a single one in an official game this season.

What else stands out? DGL is killing it on 2s so far. He's shooting 5 for 7 (71%) on these and has the highest pts per shot (when he shoots a 2) on the team. Second is TSJ on 3s (again, including the KU game where he was so hot from 3).

Negatives, so far, include MD on 3s. He's 3-14, if you include the KU game. That 21%. His 2pt and FT percentages are much better though (60% and 75%), so he is surviving on those for now.

We have 3 players who score higher per shot from 3 than they do from 2 (TSJ, CH, and LG). Everybody else would be better off trying to score near the basket. (Obviously, everybody should still be taking open layups and dunks, which is true for the whole world, so I'm just talking about "good" shots in transition or within our offense here.) Oh, I purposely didn't count Hansberry's 1-3 on 3s, since we all know where he is best, and I hope he does, or Underwood is going to yell at him again.

I fully expect us to look significantly better in this one. And I feel like we are due to shoot better from both 3 and the line. We aren't a <30% 3 point shooting team and a 50% FT shooting team, are we?

I think Brad needs to have MD be more aggressive and less of a pass-first mentality. It's been really confusing watching him play this season knowing what his accomplishments were at SIU. He's playing a different role here, I know, but man ... I was expecting him to be THE GUY who would be draining catch and shot open looks when TSJ draws his defender off to help.

We've been "due" to shoot better from the 3 and the line for quite a long time.

Marquette fan here making the trip down from Rockford. Any bar/restaurant recommendations for before or after the game?
I really enjoyed the game in Milwaukee a couple seasons ago, in spite of the IL loss. Wish this was a matchup we’d see more often. Good luck the rest of the season, except on Tuesday. Keep posting til then, it’s fun to have rival fans on here.
