Iowa 72, Illinois 65 POSTGAME

#128
up 4 with under 5 min left and lost like that. I never thought that we would make those careless mistakes not rebounding, lazy pass ,ad n stepping out twice. Just giving them free extra possessions with really not a lot of defensive pressure. I know the refs seemed pro Garza but those last five minutes we just didnt help ourselves. I feel like we gave it to them with the simple mistakes down the stretch. First time that has happened in a month and i dont wanna see it again.

Giorgi mistake = careless and completely unforced. other mistakes = should be better but still playing hard Proud of grit we had - there's letting them play ... and letting mugging go uncalled ... we got outbullied on offense and defense - don't think that will happen at home, BTT, or NCAA - we can handle some physicality and more than that will hopefully be fouls. Give credit to IA - once refs didn't call inside hard contact and pushing, they kept at it. Plenty of learning moments on off and def - and I think we are learning and improving at a faster rate since Nov than other teams and that will continue over next 4 weeks. I said aloud after first IA inbound layup (on the 3rd cutter) that I'd like to see us put in our playbook ... maybe we gif the multiple times they used it.

Let me preface by saying I didn't see the game. As to the flap afterwards — throwing a baseball pass may have been dictated by the in-bounds defense. But flushing it once you receive the pass is something else again. In that situation we were always taught to dribble until fouled or time ran out.

If there was 10 seconds left, absolutely. If the defense backs off, absolutely. 30 seconds left and they are coming after you, take the dunk.

And that is all good and well 5*. Not complaining about how good their zone was. But, we needed to make a shot or two or three to break that up, and we simply did not, with the exception of Grif's 2 wonderful three bombs.
Just finished the dvr after getting scalding hot water spilled on me by a SWA flight attendant. End of game was kinda like that.

great effort by our guys. That zone is an issue going forward. When we attacked it we mostly got good results.

Can’t win em all. Tough road game and you can’t question the toughness or fight in this team. hate result love effort.

Cripes. We are whining about the dunk and the refs?? Be better and win the game or shut up. We had our chances.

We played really tough and it was a physical and emotional game. Really proud of our effort in a really difficult environment. We just didn’t make the plays at the end and they did.
We have won our share and Garza had a great game. Can’t win em all and this wasn’t a bad loss. On to the next one.

Kofi and Ayo were really bad today. The fact that we were up 4 with 5 minutes to go indicates how good this team is. We are going to win the B1G.

Ok, went back and looked. 18 seconds when Giorgi missed the layup and we were coming after them. How does everyone feel about Ayo trying to foul with time expiring and down 7? I just think it’s silly to be upset about the dunk.

This is not about just the dunk. Garza talking chit to bench is a bigger issue

great post-game with BU. Straight, doesn't mince words or make excuses. Like what he said re: locker room sentiment. Next 4 weeks and then next 4 weeks will be fun.
Another thing that BU said and i believe to be true is that he has a good group of young men in our locker room. He recruits the right type of players on and off the court. The interviews and the connection between the guys seems really good. Regardless of what happens and i feel they will play great. This is a close tight knit group and is just another reason to root for them and also to expect them to win and play for each other. They are learning from the mistakes and getting better because imo they love the coaches, the team, their teammates and dont wanna let each other down. They know the lapses they had today and in the past but the important thing is to learn from them and get better and they have been doing that.

Would like to hear what the Iowa coach had to say after the game in his press conference,
If you only the general public knew just how whiney Fran actually is. Huge hypocrite and cry baby. You get a glimpse during games but behind the scenes is more of the same.

It sets in the west. I think everyone knew it would be a very tough game. Garza can shoot the ball. He may be the best player in the country. He does have a beautiful stroke, and he will be drafted. At the end of the game who knows what was said by an Ia. player and the bench. We can all say, "Let it go" but in the heat of the game that is easier said than done. We will get them at home. Early in the game Ayo got really mad and he went to the bench. I could not figure out what took place, or see it. We had them and could have won the game. That is the Big Ten at its best.
