This is a tough blow for Nathan Scheelhaase, in his first season as OC, losing his starting QB weeks before the season.

Even if you're a walk-on, betting the under is the second worst thing you could bet on in a game you're participating in (betting to lose straight up is obviously worse).
I mean just full stop anyone with access to the locker room cannot be betting on those games in any form or fashion.

They're just going to have to ban these guys permanently, I don't see how there's any other choice.

Working with some college age and slightly older guys, they all:

Drink energy type drinks - the company actually stopped making free coffee, no one drank it.
Play poker/game video gambling machines everywhere
Have at least one, if not more, betting apps - DraftKings and Fanduel being the most common

It's part of the culture. I would be willing to bet :) many college sports teams have player(s) that uses a friend to bet for them. Very few would would bet on their college teams let along cook the outcome, they simply do it because all of their friends do it.

Did we really think this wouldn't happen now that gambling is legal everywhere?

Perhaps. Gambling can be legal while still having laws/rules that must be followed. Furthermore, I would think that coaches would make it pretty clear to not do this.

How long will it be before a coach is caught doing the same thing?

I was going to add, these guys all have a Casey's (the gas station) where they visit all hours to get their food and drinks. They have/use a lot of points on the Casey's app. A brilliant business plan by Casey's, BTW (same with Dollar General).

I looked up the the kicker from Iowa - He's from Oskaloosa, IA. Oskaloosa, small town but large enough to have 5 Casey's locations.

What are the chances the kicker had a Casey's app, drank energy drinks, played video gambling and had a DraftKings app? All 4 I think is likely.

Not that any of those things are bad it's just ingrained in the culture. Quite innocent really, nothing nefarious. He just can't do that and play college sports - or at least do it on a phone where they can track where his bets are taking place.
