It's a place to commiserate for Illini fans. Therapy for some. Me, my expectations are so low for Illinois sports these days that i find the terrible to be entertaining as much as the good, like those people who watch housewives or kardashians, it's so bad it's fun.

I get the general concept of the message board...

I just don't find enjoyment in rooting for our coach to get canned.

Interesting pick.. he has Nike, a stable program, and is paid .3 million more than Groce.

I get that, and you're right, but it's still Oregon basketball. He will never be the dominant program at the school

Couldn't the same be said about Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Florida, Texas, and Ohio State?

Maybe, but Oregon is a significantly worse basketball school than any of the ones you've mentioned AND it is in a bad time zone

It is a lot harder to recruit players from Eastern and Central time zones when your night games start at 10 at night. Welcome to the facts of television. It sounds crazy, but it is true.

Vastly overstated when you have access to highlights whenever you want them. PAC-12 has its own network and content, as well. Not sure what the number of kids that are saying "Gee, I'd love to play for you, but I just can't see your games" is in 2016, but it is very, very low.

Time zone is something I noticed a lot after moving out to the west coast. I never even considered that it would have much of an impact on my life when I was deciding on a grad school.

They still get a lot of sweet Nike stuff, just 2 hours later

So, this link showed up on my front page of Google News today. Now it's also Groce's fault that the light bulb didn't go off over Myke Henry's head until his senior year? I remember a guy who didn't really play with any fire and was an unreliable jumpshooter. I don't remember the context of his leaving. Did he get creaned?

The guys at Writing Illini are completely clueless. You cannot expect all players to be retained after a coaching change.

Happy to see that things have worked out well for Myke but laying that on Groce is a pretty serious stretch.

I took a closer look at that page and then saw who wrote it. I should just start ignoring this guy's stuff. It's universally terrible, and I don't understand how he gained this platform.

But I am genuinely happy for Myke Henry. I remember him always looking sort of blue on the bench. Glad he's getting an opportunity to be a BMOC, even if it wasn't with the O&B.

"Groce was a player away from the NCAA tourney the past 2 seasons and it was Myke Henry"

NOPE it was a PG. Groce was a PG away from the NCAA tourney. I like Myke. Wish him the best.

Myke Henry got run off to pick up Darius Paul. That didn't work out so well.

That's not how I remember it.
What I read is that the staff wanted MH to stay, but he didn't like what he was reading in the tea leaves about his playing time here.
Now, I'm no insider and what I know is what I read here.
You seem to be personally connected, so I openly acknowledge that you may have it exactly right.
But for those less informed, it wasn't thought that he was run off, rather that he was lost with regret.

Yeah, he wanted to play the 3 and Groce needed him at the 4.

The regret grows every day.

Well, he would have been gone by now. Also, his skills largely overlapped Malcolm's which is partly why we wanted him at the 4. But I agree...I was sorry to see him leave.

Actually, it was more than just Malcolm. There was a glut of skill at the 3 on the 2013-2014 team. All ties back to the imbalance in our roster that we've had for several years.
