Whitman's like the guy who just made the major league team and needs to prove himself. I'm hoping he performs like Kris Bryant did for the Cubs. However, he could perform like Will Middlebrooks did for the Red Sox.

Idk, Bryant did lead the NL in strikeouts ;)

I think that Matt Bollant will be the one and only firing this spring. I get the sense that this will be a "practice run" on a firing-then-hiring process on the D-1 level for Whitman before he potentially has to do the same in the two major sports.

Been looking at the pics from Whitman's presser...I feel very comfortable telling any opposing school, "our AD could kick your AD's butt."

How many other AD's are running 3 miles in the a.m.? Also, how many other B1G AD's are 37 and former NFL players? I'm fairly certain we'd win a B1G AD cage match! ;)

Dang...how many people, in general, do that?

The only thing we're winning right now is a hypothetical cage match. You have your work cut out for you Mr. Whitman

Re: the Whitman video, Fighting Illini Productions does a consistently awesome job, particularly given the lack of great content they have to work with (i.e., wins).

This Video is Excellent -- a possitive among so many negatives . . .

. . . . should be played at all events possible. Starting with B-Ball on Thursday night, and again on Sunday. Then get it to as many places as possible. Is it too much to expect a major outlet like Comcast to play the whole thing? Maybe -- but ask anyway. Maybe they play at least a little bit. And get it to Deadspin, etc. Mostly so that every one of the 690,000+ living alums gets access to it. [Fact Check Number at: https://www.uillinois.edu/alumni]

Does he remind anybody else of a mix of 30% Don Draper, 50% the Rock, 10% John Groce (probably just the hair, which is probably covered by the Rock) and 10%William Fichtner (aka Col. Willie Sharp from Armageddon)?

That is a great video! Damn, watching that reminds me again of how much I love Illinois! Even though we have had major difficulty in the leadership of the university, and the key sports of football and basketball have been down, the video shows how much there is to be proud of at the U of I. We have a great educational institution, fabulous other sport programs, as well as exceptional student-athletes that wear the orange and blue. It nice to have one of our own at the top of the athletic program and I really wish and hope Josh Whitman succeeds.

I've spoken to a few fellow alumni that are donors (not the "major" ones - but substantial enough) who have made it clear that they are excited about JW and are going to be or have already put in donations.

My question - and maybe this has already been answered - is whether or not JW is in with Shahid? Obviously he brings the big checkbook with a big appetite for athletics.

Since 2009, 62 of the 65 power conference teams have had at least a Sweet 16 or an 8-win football season. https://twitter.com/nmartin4/status/701799656917966848

Robert added,
Nathan Martin @nmartin4 @ALionEye Only 3 of 65 power programs have failed to reach Sweet 16 or 8 football wins since January 09. Illinois, Colorado & Wake Forest

Interesting that Colorado is one of the other two sucky programs besides Illinois. Maybe Josh will lead the Illini to prominence before the guy that so many wanted instead of him. That would be SO sweet...

The Right Guy for the Right Time

I'm sold on Whitman and I don't think we settled. I truely believe we needed an Illini guy, tired of folks using us as a stepping stone. We have somebody on the rise who wants to be here. He will grow on the job and we need to be patient.

I think he will give the current coaches to succeed but at the same time replace them as needed. It seems like he has a built in support that will energize the campus and alumni once again.
