My daughter is a freshman at KU. They have done a horrible job preparing her, educating her as a college basketball fan. College basketball isn't winning championships and dancing in the streets. It's misery and disappointment and missed recruits! She has now been set up for failure. Bad job, KU.

I'm considering a strongly worded letter to Bill Self.

I think all of Illini Nation wants to offer the greatest congratulations and highest praise to the magnificent Kansas University basketball program and the remarkable season they just had as well as an incomparable resume of sports greatness that no one else in any sport can possibly compare to. Ever.

And to Coach Self, who certainly made the right move when left all those lesser stepping-stone schools along the way to he could get to his Dream School and fulfill his destiny.

Editor Note: PLEASE back date this post to April 1st.

What's the over and under on KU vacating the championship?
Apparently none of the current players have been implicated in any of the violations, so there's basically no risk of having to vacate the Championship. If Bill and KU get off somehow, on the other hand, it will be even more egregious than the UNC fake classes debacle.

Self, alas, could very well get off, somehow. Based on previous egregious rulings, I have absolutely no faith in the violations process.

I guess I'm strange but I'll never begrudge Bill. Dude left a roster in place here that was one of the best we've ever had. *shrugs*
For all the people that hate Bill Self for leaving the Illini, you need to lighten up. Kansas was his dream job, I completely understand that!
I am not a coach, but if I was, and the Illinois job was available and they were interested in me, I would be there without hesitation.
I hated to lose Bill Self, but I completely understand his motivation. The roster that he left BW provided one of the most exciting
memories in Illini basketball. Weber screwed up the next stretch because he couldn't recruit, but, thank God, that is history now.
BU looks at Illinois as a dream job. BU may not be Bill Self, but he is not going to be hammered by the NCAA for recruiting violations.
Of course, Self might not get hit because Kansas is one of the main "blue bloods", but it sure looks like the hammer is about to come down.
It will be interesting to see if the gutless NCAA will actually do anything to a classic "blue blood.'

If Self had stayed, he could very well have gotten Illinois into the same kind of trouble Kansas is now in. And the hammer almost certainly would have been bigger and harder on Illinois than it probably will be on "blue blood" Kansas.

Your post expresses my feelings to a tee since before selfie left Illinois. I have no proof and never will but I think selfie has been dirty since his Tulsa days. The Illinois program can not withstand scrutiny of corruption with the same success that a Kansas caliber program enjoys.

I have very close friends in Kansas and have offered to wager some mildly serious cash that selfie walks away smiling from his present problems. They won't touch those bets. They also don't care how much of slime ball selfie is or what his choke percentage is. To stay in good graces with those in the Sunflower State and the fans of KU basketball all he has to do is get the boys to the final four every so often.

He could have also gotten us a bunch of conference titles, final fours, maybe even a couple championships. Could predict it either way.

Thanks to RG, we will never know. Might make some happy. Others not so much.

Self might have led the Illini to a bunch of conference titles, final fours, etc. But, the right way? Doubtful, IMO.

So do you think it was the shoe companies or the boosters that funneled those two star recruits to the then unknown Golden Hurricane coach? 😂😂

Sorry for being out the loop, but UNC actually get one of their championships revoked?
Sadly, no. North Carolina presented the unlikely defense that because they let a few non-athletes cheat, too, then cheating wasn’t a benefit just for the basketball team. This cynical and transparent effort to violate the intent, if not the language, of the rule was viewed with favor by an NCAA desperately searching for a way to not punish one of their bluechip cash cows. I believe that, for the same reason, the Kansas investigation is unlikely to result in meaningful sanctions.

The blue chip programs ARE the NCAA. There is no line of separation between them. They are essentially policing themselves. They will live or die as one.

Nope, I don't. At least not the shoe companies. You've got exactly the same amount of proof selfie wasn't dirty at Tulsa as I do that he was.

It's weird how some folks still begrudge Self for leaving all these years later. Kansas is objectively a better job...with better pay. How can you fault him? He doesn't love Illinois like we do. He was a hired hand.

And BTW, he's not just a used car salesman. I don't care if he writes checks to players from his own checkbook, he still gets the most out of them.

Since 2004...
Coach K:
5* recruits: 40
ACC championships: 4
Final Fours: 4
Natties: 2

Self:
5* recruits: 19
B12 championships: 16
Final Fours: 4
Natties: 2

With the dark cloud forming overhead, there was additional urgency for Kansas to win another title on Self’s watch.
That mission was accomplished, but now what?
Writing for CBSSports.com, Matt Norlander had this take:
The win obviously comes with a looming situation for Self and Kansas. That uncertain future has the potential to influence what Self can do or wants to do. Kansas is awaiting punishment from the NCAA (via the IARP), and sources have told CBS Sports that it's likely that the damage will be severe — and coming soon. A ruling on Kansas happening in the near-future is probable.

This of course dates back to the FBI scandal, as the NCAA has pinned five Level I violations on Self and his program. He's guaranteed a suspension, and its length could be anywhere from low double digits in games to sitting out an entire season. He'll fight it all, and the university will certainly try to sue on his behalf, but because this is the IARP, there is no appeal process.
There's a chance Kansas could also be banned from the 2023 postseason.

Lots of other opinions , but the one I posted above is the most info I have read and it paints an ominous portrait of what Mr. Self could be looking at....

KU signing Self to a LIFELONG contract whilst 5 serious Level 1 violations being muddled through.....pretty classless, and poor example for everyone.
