As far as on the court, KN was mostly a non factor after his child was born. Bad decisions lead to lasting consequences. He made a big mistake and I hope he learns from it and is given a chance elsewhere. We will be fine next year without his services IMO.

Bravo to JW, JG, and whoever else behind this decision. Absolutely what needed to be done.

Also only hope/wish the best for Kendrick going forward.

Hopefully will get a chance to make up for his mistake but there's no way it should have been in O&B in my opinion.

Excellent statement by JW and I agree with it. Consequences are tough but appropriate, and hopefully Kendrick will learn from it. I hope he makes wise decisions in the future and is successful. His bball career is obviously not over and he will have a second chance at another university.

kind of shocked over this. I feel bad for Kendrick, too bad he made the wrong decision. It seems like a harsh judgment that may affect his whole life in a negative way. Hopefully he can stay positive, learn from his mistake and still have a great life and end up a better person for it all. I do think they were looking for a suspension that might have given him a second chance, and taught him a lesson about life but I guess that was not in the cards? Hopefully the rest of the team will take more seriously all of their choices in life. I wish Kendrick success in whatever he does and I hope he fulfills the obligations of the courts decision and continues to use this all for good in his life.

Unfortunate, but ultimately the correct call, no matter who made it. In the end, it was made and all parties involved should be commended for going forward.

I think this is the only way Whitman could handle it. Kudos to him and the university for making a good, tough decision. Look, if the Ray Rice (NFL) thing had never happened and the issue of domestic violence in the world of sports wasn't in the spotlight, this particular case might be seen in a different light. Likewise, if the basketball program hadn't been in the news for all the wrong reasons the last few years, there might be more play.

What Nunn did was obviously reprehensible, but as I understand it he didn't cause or intend to cause bodily harm: he was trying to intimidate the victim and get back money she owed him. If I had a son who bullied and threatened a woman, then slapped her upside the head, pinned her down, and poured a glass of water on her face, I'd be furious and unbelievably disappointed. I'm extremely disappointed in Nunn's decision making. I'm also not willing to call him a violent abuser or a woman beater or anything like that. More like a dumb kid who needs to work on his self-control and learn to treat women with respect.

I think the way the situation is being processed is highly context dependent (but then isn't everything?). That said, in light of the dynamics of the cultural moment and the state of the program, this was the only acceptable outcome. Hope Kendrick gets it together and succeeds at the next stop.

When the issue is violence against women, you can either have a zero-tolerance policy or a some-tolerance policy. And the problem with having a some-tolerance policy is that you're then forced to have open-forum conversations about whether the act was really violent enough to warrant dismissal, or whether the player has other good qualities, or whether the victim was partially to blame, etc. ... basically a bunch of rabbit holes that do no good for the athletic department to be going down. Besides, I don't see much downside in putting every student athlete on alert that violence against women is a third rail that will get them booted if it's proven that they even slightly touch it. My only criticism is that they should have made this decision last week. Why even bother having the internal discussion.

Like I said, I trust JW.

Too bad for KN. Made a really bad decision.

I'm all for second chances, but unfortunately there are some decisions that come with serious consequences.

Shockingly all 3 cases were handled correctly. It's obviously hugely disappointing we put ourselves in this position in the first place but we went a long ways to helping our media perception (and doing the right thing). In my opinion this helps a ton with national perception but with media and with recruiting where families should no longer be worried about what our program teaches.

If you are going to kick someone off the team is rather people get it right then just jump to a decision. Who cares how long it took as long as he right decision was made (and still in a relatively timely fashion).

Are you speaking from a legal adjudication standpoint or administrative standpoint?

I'm shocked too, JW has performed well during a crazy first couple months. I'm really starting to like our future with him at the helm.

Did Whitman actually make a public statement about this? I see some people referring to him making a statement, literally or figuratively via the dismissal?

Thanks to Kendrick for 3 exciting years as an Illini with his many 3-pointers, dunks, and blocks - best to him in the future. Here's hoping coach and staff find the right fit for that scholarship as soon as possible.

Agreed. Josh Whitman, more than anything, needs to start on the right foot. It's unfortunate that this situation is so early in his tenure, but he made the right move.
