Where did he rank among centers? If it was lower than second, then coaching him into second team all American is beating the field.

He really has to be careful about having worse year somewhere else. Then his success here will be questioned. And there isn’t that much room for improvement.
For sure, he was 12 overall. I don't want to take away from the development at all, Kofi and UI did a fantastic job. I just don't think he came out of nowhere.

0nly two other BIG teams offered (IU and Minny), no Duke, no Kansas.

Toss all the woulda, coulda, shoulas in the trash because we DID IT.

And yes, Kansas did offer him. But I get your point.

Gone or not gone, our staff did a helluva of a job developing him.

Actualizing potential takes a lot of hard work

Most of the credit IMO goes to the athlete. For sure the staff, coaches, and team all make a difference, but if you turn it around, you'd have to think that all the wash-outs who came in highly rated, must have flamed out due to bad staff. Doesn't make sense, and I don't think you can have it both ways.

I think it is a situation where both schools don't totally know right now. I can say that Kofi and the staff has had some very good dialogue the past few days so things are trending up there
So he’s trying to develop a relationship with Underwood!

Plenty of praise to go around. It's up to the athlete to put in the work and follow the routines cooked up by the staff, but the staff still needs to do a damn good job of creating that development program and adapting it to the athlete as they become more familiar with one another.

I mean his development has been great at Illinois but to say he was not recognized as an elite player with excellent potential (247 has him at 46 overall) is selling the other programs a bit short.
Fact is Cal and some others passed on him two years ago....read again "KY did not prioritize Kofi" 2 yrs ago, we did! Even now, KY arguably prioritizes Duren over him now.

All that said, Kofi worked his tail off and earned his recognition. BU and the Illini coaches enabled what he has achieved in 2 years...not just Chin/OA, ...but the whole staff and team.

Kofi is an iconic Illini player. He is "one of many" at Ky. Kofi may pass on continuing his Iconic status at Illinois.....but from a marketing, development and loyalty perspective, I believe "if" he leaves illini,....he will regret it.

On a NIL side note....would love to see marketing campaign of anything with Giorgi and Kofi together and cutting up.

I believe that if Kofi goes to Ky it is simply because he wants to be with OA....I'm sure as a young man in Jamaica, coming to the U.S. to a University that you may have never heard of and adopting to all the cultural changes and challenges of being away from home, that OA played a huge role in Kofi's development not just on the court but off the court as well....sticking with the man that got him where he's at today for another year would not surprise me at all

Maybe that relationship is the ticket...he also has many other relationships at Illinois that are enduring,...returning players, fletch, alexander, etc.

I dont buy that OA is the sole reason for Kofi's success, nor do I think Kofi would subscribe to that. Ref: "...man that got him where he's at..
"

All that said, if OA means so much, ...Kofi would honor OA advice, emploring.. "stay at Illinois"

Never said that OA was the sole reason for his success....there were many relationships that I'm sure were and still are special to Kofi.....some are gone (OA, Chin, Ayo, Georgi,etc)....some are still at Illinois (BU, Fletch, Belo, etc).....but I'm pretty sure OA was the reason Kofi came to Illinois and with many of the other relationships moving elsewhere maybe the thought of hanging with guy that recruited him one more year is worth serious consideration....jmho

Surely someone who frequents this board knows whether Kofi has removed his belongings from Apartment 402.

I mean it’s really nothing major. I think the story has probably been a bit exaggerated, but I would bet he did tell him to stay at some point in the process
Yeah...I agree, nothing major. He has reached amazing level of success at Champaign...he got feedback from NBA and should have a heart to heart with BU on using him in a difft way to address his development needs.

At Illinois, Kofi knows the players, system....any coach who cares about him, not just OA, I think would likely advise Kofi the same...dont mess with success.

Kofi needs to ensure BU will develop/feature him to satisfy NBA needs, but OA and most other coaches understand risk of a new system with unknown chemistry.

I'm imagining lots of Kofi high post jumpers and kickouts to Trent, Damonte, Podz, in his future if he returns....and putback dunks of the few drive misses by AC.

I'm also imagining State Farm commercials with Kofi and Giorgi...I like Chris Paul, but time for a change.

A simple observation from a simple mind, but I saw Kofi play in high school and he never seemed to smile or laugh much. However, I notice he smiles and laughs much more since joining the Illini. Based on these facts, proven methodology and deep analysis of behavioral patterns I have determined he will stay and play in C-U next season.
