Pardon my ignorance, but who exactly is Larry Gies?, besides an alumnus with his name attached to the business school

Absolutely amazing!! As a side note, this is why it always pissed me off when people - and even some of our fans who were overly pessimistic!! - acted like Illinois was some inherently small money school during our years of football futility. The money was always there, donors just wanted to be sure they were giving it to an athletics program that actually was serious about winning! U of I has an endowment of $3.4 billion ... compare that to only about $2 billion at Nebraska, where there is a stereotype that they have "deep pockets." The reason people gave to the university was because they knew it was for a worthwhile product ... but that POTENTIAL for big donations to the DIA was always there! It's great to see us finally taking steps toward our potential as a state flagship school of a huge state that has a massive alumni base!

big time AD securing big time commitments. this has to be the coaching equivalent of signing the #1 ranked recruiting class. it’s only a matter of time before Texas or ND comes after Whitman
From a quick Google search, it looks like Texas' AD makes about $4.3 million, and Notre Dame's makes in the neighborhood of $3 million (newer stats weren't available) ... compared to $1.5 million for Josh here. We'll have the hometown/home school advantage, but I hope these same donors realize what a gem we have in Josh and step up to match any offer!

Private equity company Madison Industries CEO.

Although at least Madison Industries tries to brand itself as not just another private equity fund, they invest in "companies that are essential to collective health and well-being. The company actively invests and manages companies across sectors including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), helping their customers become segment leaders while promoting consumer wellness."

I cringe at billionaires who buy naming rights on stadiums, hospitals and museums to inflate their egos, yet I am still very happy to know the stadium may finally get the horseshoe renovation we've been hoping for. Thank you, Mr. Gies!View attachment 43565

I would much rather put the name of an Alumni who donated to the program in front of the existing name rather than a corporate partnership like State Farm Center.
