Grew up in the suburbs, now living out in the SF Bay area after graduating a few years ago.

I'm here! Graduated in 2011, went home for 9 months and came right back and started working. No plans on leaving anytime soon.

LOL! ...... Hear this story so often about people leaving and coming back. The other story I hear is those intending to be here a short while and getting sucked in for good. I, myself, left twice for extended periods and came back. Have lived here on and off since 1965. Hope to leave one more time and never come back. I guess that could happen in a couple different ways.

This has been done in the past, but I thought it'd be interesting to do after having recently roadtripped through the state. Let's see where our message board's fan base is scattered. Feel free to elaborate in your post!!

EDIT: Can't edit the poll, but I didn't mean to put "IL:" in front of Chicago, LOL.

Would also be interesting to see those outside Illinois are in BIG territory, or outside.

I'm a little too far outside stl to be considered in the suburbs, but I chose it anyway. It's only a 30 min drive. We go there often, was just downtown yesterday

Yeah, I could only do 20 options, and I really wanted to see how we were dispersed instate, for those who are instate. More options would have been fun!

Side topic, how big of an Illini fan base is there in your area? Obviously, Springfield/Peoria/Champaign/etc. are going to be solidly Illini country, and we all know Chicago is Illini plurality with lots of Notre Dame and other Big Ten fans, but I would be interested to hear guesses at the percentage breakdowns in other areas.

Grew up in Cissna Park. Went to Illinois State 1975-80 when they had Smithson (then went to Witchita State) and were ranked as high as #4 nationally at one time (knew those guys personally from dorm life - RIP Del Yarbrough). Saw ISU lose to ISU with Larry Bird in the NIT live. Saw Ron Jones on TV make 2 free throws if my memory serves me right to beat UI with a score in the 40's. But have always been an Illinois fan because of growing up watching the high school tournament(s) in the Assembly Hall - and of course WCIA.
Been in Mississippi for 25 years.

Guess I didn't even answer myself! Was born in Peoria but went to school (mid-elementary to high school) in Iowa City because my dad took a job there when I was young. I grew up a HUGE Illini fan and constantly took crap from my Hawkeyes friends, and Illinois was always my dream school. For a slew of personal and family reasons - along with some developments during my junior and senior year of high school - I decided it was best for me to stay home and attend the University of Iowa. While I quite naturally don't hate Iowa like some fans here, my Illini fandom never waivered. :)

Normal, but grew up in Moultrie county. Watched the Illini as a little kid in the early fifties when we got our first TV. I remember the Chief at half time, and wondered why Illinois had an (native American) symbol. I thought, due to all the Westerns on TV that those folks all were from Texas or Kansas. My H.S. teacher father would then give me lectures on the rich native history of Illinois. Thanks to the Chief, I became a bit of an amateur historian of early Illinois history. Still miss him. Due to the Chief, I have a fair knowledge of, and a high degree of respect for our native population.[

My story is VERY similar to you. I went to junior high (Southeast), high school (City High) and college (Iowa) all in Iowa City, and I HATE the Hawks with a PASSION!!! I have taken so much crap from Hawkeye fans for so many years all it's done is make me hate the Hawks that much more.

I did spend five years in Urbana (right on campus living in married student housing as a kid) and went to Martin Luther King Elementary school grades 2-6. That's where I became an Illini fan and was covered in Orange and Blue forever!! :thumb:

My dad got a job at the University of Iowa, and that's why we had to move to Iowa City before my seventh grade year. I begged my family to move back. Never happened.

Colorado Springs, CO
I grew up in Taylor Ridge (few minutes away from Quad Cities). I joined Army in 05 and haven't lived there since. I settled in Colorado Springs, CO and wear my Illini lanyard daily. And I always get asked if I graduated from Illinois (I wish I did). I would love to be able to move back, I miss grass and trees, plus Quad Cities Style Pizza is amazing.
