LvilleILL beat me to it but yeah in most of these cities there will be sports, just without fans. My guess It'll be at least 3 months after the sports come back before the cities not as hard hit by this bring fans back to games and it'll be another 3 months after that for major cities like L.A., NY, etc.

I'll start by saying that I think people underrate our squad we have coming back, assuming Kofi returns and Ayo doesn't. That is what I personally consider the "best bet" outcome. With that said, what do you guys expect our preseason rank to be in all scenarios? I'd guess:
Both Kofi and Ayo leave: No votes in either poll
Kofi returns, Ayo leaves: Receiving votes in both polls, POSSIBLY ranked in one

With both back we are comfortably a top 15 team, probably top 10. By no means is this a stretch. However, both won’t be back-so it’s a moot point.
Illinois bringing in offensive talent in forward Coleman Hawkins
“Coleman probably had the highest basketball IQ on our team,” said Prolific Prep head coach Joey Fuca. “He’s your prototypical stretch four and he even played some five for us. He’s a lethal pick and pop shooter and a very good passer. He’s a winner and extremely competitive.”

Three major questions for 2020-2021(assuming Kofi leaving, knowing he may not)
When is Miller signing? Kind of a big deal. Knowing that schools done and quarantine is indefinite right now....what's the hangup? No, he's not waiting for "his moment" or if he is, it's going to be an awfully long wait.
Is there even going to be a 2020-21 season?
The fact that it's still only April and they're
already talking about the likelihood or unlikelihood of schools allowing students on campus...that has to change the recruiting philosophy, especially with the kids, right or wrong, figuring that they're one and done(Miller).
Where is the presence in the middle going to come, most notably rebounding and shot blocking. The whole defensive mindset and scheme changes without that.

I firmly believe Miller will be an Illini. If he’s not, I think it will be because there’s no season next year and he goes pro/G League route. I would understand this decision and take your chance when you have it to make a living doing what you love. Prediction, the only way we never see Miller in an Illini uniform is if there’s no season next year.
This is why I understand Ayo if he’s gone and if Kofi decides to take his shot. Times of uncertainty can influence the process. Not sure what lies ahead.

Its tricky for sure because colleges and schools are creating contingency plans in case fall is not in session physically. Many venues and states are building contigency plans for being closed for rest of year. Tricky times and hopefully will be better soon.

This is undoubtedly uninformed, but if the holdup for Miller's signing is that he is worried about there being a 20-21 basketball season . . .
Having signed to play college ball with anyone (U of I obviously included) would not preclude him from moving on to G League or Europe when the cancellation was announced. So why not sign? What option would that preclude for him? I know so little about pro sports, but it seems to cut off no path.

No reason not too. But, on the flip side, as long as Miller and staff are on same page, what’s the need to sign, especially from Miller’s perspective. He’s got until what, August?

I'm not in a college but a high school. We won't be able to reopen until we have wide spread testing, both for active infections and antibodies, so we know who is sick and who isn't. That's the only way we'll be able to reopen daily gatherings of 100+ people like schools and universities. If that can't be figured out, the next academic year as well as the next cycle of sports seasons are in jeopardy.
Antibody testing is unlikely to be the answer here, unfortunately. Even the best antibody tests are far from perfect, and mass testing of asymptomatic individuals will have a massive amount of false positives. We’ll need a vaccine to really put it behind us.
I don't think the answer is waiting on a vaccine. At best, it will be another 9 months to a year and at worst, they never find one. I think that the answer probably comes with developing successful treatment methods. You don't feel well, you head to the doctor, you get tested and if it's positive you take "XYZ" drug, go home and chill out for a week. That really how HIV was dealt with. It's been over 30 years since the epidemic blew up, there's no vaccine, but they treat it with various therapies and you go on and live a full life, taking proper precautions.
If we're waiting on a vaccine and that's the baseline for students getting back on campus....the outlook, as relates to sports, is bleak.

Any sport in which an object is passed between people is unrealistic. Perhaps golf, possibly tennis and other non-contact sports that can adopt incovenient protocols and compete with just camera crews, officials and athletes/coaches/trainers in the area, can probably be made to work. Will people call it unfair or embrace the return of sports to our lives?
The likelihood of fall sports is very bleak. Why? Because (as has already been stated) we have nowhere near the testing and contact tracing required to stay ahead of the virus. Without that visibility we are still chasing the virus rather than stopping it's spread. So while I'm optimistic that the current technology will result in an effective vaccine (and much better treatments) in the next 18 months, I just don't see how testing is going to catch up to the outbreak much sooner than that. With AI and the combined technologies of gene reading, writing and editing, there is a solid chance on getting an effective vaccine...next year. Whether it can be fairly and effectively distributed to all residents in a timely manner, however, would require competence I've seen absolutely no evidence of from this Administration. They view fairness as a threat, not a core American value.
