Fighter of the Nightman: “...I really hope we reignite the United Center tradition again...We all used to (rightfully) see it as a nice recruiting pitch and something unique to Illinois - our "home away from home." It's time to bring that back...”

Going back to the 1940s (at least), the College Basketball doubleheaders (and even some tripleheaders) used to be great feature events at old Chicago Stadium – the legendary ancient palace on West Madison street where so many sports memories were made for many generations. Sure, the UC is nice. But the Old Barn was an absolute classic to be inside of. When the place was rocking, you not only could not hear yourself think... but you could FEEL sounds waves tingling off your SKIN. What an amazing feeling and place. Sure, it was old and had its faults. But you just hung right over the court from the upper decks and the big crowds that used to exceed the fire marshal seating limits filled the place with amazing energy.

The Illini would play the ‘feature’ final game of the evening in those 'headers. It was Chicago’s true basketball team for a long time because Chicago did not have a pro team really take hold in the City until the Sloan/Van Lier/Walker/Love/Boerwinkle Bulls teams of the early 1970s. And then of course, The Greatest Of All Time came to town to fully seal the deal and make the Bulls a World-wide franchise.

Chicago had it’s Northwestern and De Paul and Loyola people of course. But the Illini were/are the State Nameplate Franchise and it has been a shame that The Orange suffered some down years and lost so much fan interest that they could have had.

People of course love a winner. Once the Illini now stay at or near The Mountaintop like they should, the fan interest in the City will be reignited and The Orange will have the UC rocking. And it never hurts to grab a City blacktop legend or two and have them in Orange to show the World what Chicago ball is all about.

Hopefully all our ‘21 guys stay but it looks like they all jumped in the final 247 rankings.

We've been kicked in the "face" so much in the last few years with recruits, it's easy to think it is still going to happen.

But, we've turn the corner and it will be ok, going to stay in the dance & top 25 for years to come

1) We lost 1 maybe 2 to the NBA, and 1 to probable European ball. (great sell to recruits)
-- 3 great recruits coming - all top 150 & strong class next year too
2) We lost 2 to the transfer market - 1 couldn't win the PG job & the other wanted more floor time
-- 2 proven top notch transfers coming in
3) We have Trent & Da Monte' back - I'll take Trent with the ball in his hands for the last second shot
-- hard to replace Ayo a once in a decade talent
4) We played 8 deep last year, so the rest of the roster is ready to step up
-- Grandison - stepped up and started at the end of the year
-- Hawkins - played great minutes
-- BBV and others looked good
5) Curbelo - will run the show - going to be fun to watch
6) Kofi - still may come back
-- if so, no other team will have an answer
7) Brad Underwood - can see talent, and coach it in to his system or modify to match his talent
-- losing Orlando & Chin will hurt, we got poached by Kentucky's deep pockets - quite a complement
-- lets see who we get to go with Gentry

Old Chicago Stadium might've been my favorite place on Earth. RIP

Been there for Bulls, Hawks, and even a circus, but the most amazing experience was a SRO Sting game. Ft. Lauderdale Strikers maybe? The whole place was up for grabs. Looking back, it was odd the passion they aroused for a short lived league.

Best was an Alice Cooper concert in the 70s with people throwing lit cherry bombs from upper level to people sitting on the floor.

I guess on Curbelo's Instagram or Twitter, he had a poll asking whether he should keep #5 or switch to his high school number #11. Seems most people wanted him to keep the #5, but I want him to go to #11. It's a very good number. It was Dee's number, and it was Ayo's number. Curbelo should be on the watch list for the Cousy award. Illini's winners wore #11.

I voted #11. I think he deserves it, like you said some of the best wore it.

Does anyone else remember any Illini winners wearing #5? Maybe a 3rd round pick, olympic gold medalist? Led the greatest comeback in Illini history in the Elite Eight against Arizona? #5 is a damn fine number too.

Right, but just seems fitting to have Dee and Ayo's number...Curbelo has a certain flair.

I don't care about the number. Just the colors!

Kofi in Frisco just north of Dallas working out at a sports performance facility. Has to be paid by an agent right? Doubt he would be paying for hotel room & facility himself. Would he still be able to come back or this it?

I believe the board is depending on you to go to follow him to the hotel and demand to see who is paying for Kofi's room. Seems like a perfectly reasonable expectation.

Simply hiring an agent no longer causes a player to forfeit any remaining eligibility. Rule changed a few years ago.
