I'm really disappointed. Where are the multiple weeks of speculation, where we seem to be dithering and not getting anything done and the Chicago and national media are publicly wondering whether anyone is awake at the wheel? This seeming decisiveness and competence has me really uncomfortable. Sort of dizzy. I'm not sure how to handle this.

Depends a lot on how he coaches this bad team. If he can get the most out of them, he has tons of NFL player connections. Guys like Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher, and Peanut Tillman would go to bat for this guy. He is the ultimate player's coach in that regard, so we will see where this goes. NC? Probably not, but I would expect to challenge the big ten with annual bowl visits.

NCs is a push, but Ole Miss brought in a coach who made some home run recruits (some from Illinois!) and was suddenly in the NC race. Things happen more quickly now, particularly as recruiting becomes less regional and more "winner takes all". I look forward to Lovie recruiting in Chicago and in Florida and think he'll come up big. My concern for Lovie is whether he'll be able to discipline young kids screwing up on campus - kind of like the emerging Groce situation.

It's the dawn of a new era my friend. Dogs and cats living together, the Cubs winning games, now Illinois is suddenly relevant. Has to be a sign of the apocalypse.

I bet Uncle Jim is happy too. Some heft in the West. Not many colleges hire a two time NFL HC who took a team to the Super Bowl (with Rex Grossman at QB). All hail JFW!

I added some missing emphasis to your statement. ;)

Lovie will be a role model to the kids. The players won't mess up, and will play with intensity. Biggest hire in Illinois sports history. LOVE IT!

Lovie is not without risks but this is one of the biggest coups in Illinois Football history . . . he follows Tepper, Turner, Zook, Beckman, Cubit . . enough said.

Lovie - bring us back to the days of Zuppke and Elliot!

Lovie meeting the team. This right here gets me pumped.

P.S. Does the bad spacing between "TO" and "WIN" bother anyone else? #OCD

Wish I could have been a fly on the wall when he first addressed the players, that must have been awesome.

Graphic designer here: very much, yes. But I'm much more interested in hearing what Lovie is saying at the moment! :thumb:

Plus whatever TB will be paying Lovie.

I read TB owes him 10 Mill over the next 2 years, but also has a clause that states they only have to make up the difference in salary that amounts to what they owe him over those years should he take another job. Hence the low annual salary over the first two years of the contract if you call 2million low

Get rid of "Expect To" and replace with "We Will".

I thought that was a warning about parking in a restricted area and there wasn't room for the "G."

Sorry, it's Monday morning. My funny doesn't kick in until Weds afternoon.

This is just great news! Always thought he would make a good College coach but when he shut the door on the Vols, I figured he just didn't want to. But wow, what a turn of events. Great role model for the young men on the team and the future men to join the team. Hoping Lovie can put together a very solid staff!

As long as I NEVER have to listen to Tim Beckman try to explain what the acronym "OSKEE" stands for, ever again.

EXPECT TOW IN!

I bet that sign changes to WE WILL WIN soon.

Such an amazing time to be an Illini fan...who would have said that 3 days ago! Lol. So now the attention will turn to who Lovie hires for a staff. I have no doubt that Lovie can attract a big time staff if the money is there to get it done and I have to think it is. I do not think Lovie would have signed on if he wasn't going to be given full support in that area. Fun times!

EXPECT TOWING! It makes sense now. Beckman was warning them about parking in his "Best Coach of the Year" parking spot.
