I've never been that concerned about guys with no coaching experience becoming a pro HC. The team just needs to make sure he's surrounded by veteran coordinators that know what they are doing and will be mostly autonomous on their side of the ball. Oftentimes head coaches are there more to oversee everything, handle the media and off field responsibilities while the assistants are doing the real work.

It's a heavily personnel driven scheme that fits about 10x better in the NFL. He might not make the Texans a number 1 defense, but his job is much easier in the NFL as a DC.

Look at international soccer, plenty of stars getting HC or high assistant jobs right after they retire, if not while they are still playing. NBA has gotten in on it too. Heck, the Cubs hired Ross.

People are naturally adverse to change. I'm a big advocate for people getting opportunities based on their resume, but also on their interview, intangibles, and vision for the future.

Talk about night and day: hiring Lovie as a DC and McCown as HC would be about as far on both spectrum as you could get.

Wonder how it will go for Lovie without Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, or Mike Brown. Makes being a d.c. a little easier.

I think Lovie will do ok. As others have said, it will be more about the talent level than the scheme. Pretty much no one thought Illinois had the personnel to run it and his refusal to change was part of the problem. That’s a big part of what excites me about the new staff. They are willing to build a system to fit the talent they have.

unlike college, the NFL has no limit on how many coaches a team can employ, correct ?
Lovie may have been able to negotiate that into his deal. If so , good for him.
One would think that at some point, Miles learns the job , right? It just wasn't the right fit for us

At least now I know that there is one organization that is even more incompetent than my Pittsburgh Pirates. And that is saying a lot.

What I wouldn’t give to be standing within earshot the first time Miles Smith starts explaining to Zach Cunningham or Benardrick McKinney all the things they need to do better to make the cut as NFL linebackers. Assuming either of them is still on the Texans roster by then.

Seriously, is there even the slightest doubt remaining that Houston’s plan (see prior post in this thread) is to intentionally tank and hoard draft picks for at least the next two seasons?

And last I recall Whitney Mercilus is on that team too. Imagine the PTSD flashbacks he must be having right now.
