Ugh. Bad choice for him. Bad choice for us. Bad choice all around.

Smith wasn’t a great defender, but he wasn’t the only poor defender on a 13 (d1) win team. Eboigbodin and Smith had the same number of defensive win shares last season, 4 or so other guys were marginally better.

So does this have an effect on Ramey recruitment? Good/bad?

Best of luck to Mark except I hope Miznoz loses every game! :D:illinois:

According to an article from the Kansas City Star it most likely takes them out of the running for Ramey.

If I'm a Missouri fan I'm not necessarily jumping up and down over this, except to gloat to Illinois fans.

Also, Malcolm Hill with a characteristically classy appearance in the Twitter conversation.

Man, I love MH.

So did mizzou never have a chance at all with Ramey? Cause no way I take Smith if I have a chance at Ramey. You know smith will wait on you if you’re miznoz.

The play must be Liddell right?

For those saying that Illini fans shouldn't boo him at bragging rights:

1. Yeah, good luck with that
2. He knew what he was getting himself into.
3. This hurts us a lot with St Louis area recruits. Between THT and this, we're going to have some baggage with hs coaches in our two biggest local areas. Glad we've demonstrated an ability to recruit across the nation. Time for Antigua and Coleman to earn their money.
4. I like Walker a lot, but going to be hard to win St Louis battles after this, so don't know if it would be the worse thing if he moved along. Moreso for him as this hurts his ability to succeed in a niche area he had with us that he may be able to duplicate at another school.

Picks the one place that will vilify him in the eyes of Illinois fans. Good luck, guy. Message received.

What did Malcom say?

He Said:
“Forever love bro. Great things ahead of you family. #618 #Jets”

Some subsequent appalling comments and profane name-calling from a few asinine Illini fans. Takes a real man to pick on an 18-yr old for sticking close to home right after having one of the most disappointing years of his life.

anyone else's mind go to... Did Cuonzo tamper with Smith while he was an Illini? IDK if probable but possible.

I will give him a soft clap when introduced at Braggin Rights game

I will then hope like crazy for a 20 point beatdown

Best of luck to Mark. Kind of a crazy move as this puts a ton of pressure on the kid when we play them in 2 years. There's no way BU lets him get a dribble off when we play them.

Does this smell of his dad basically saying FU to the O&B? Even though he was given all the chance and more to succeed here.

It seems to me that this only hurts us with recruits if he is highly successful. I have no doubt he can score but the step slow is not going to change. Combine that with a team that is not going to see more than moderate success and I don't see a long term problem.

respect my decision™
<With my Illini hat on> Very cheeky, but whatever. Good for Mark for not stepping down a level (mid-major). Wonder how much his dad factored into the decision? Also, if this means no Ramey for Miznoz, I make that "trade," all day, every day.

Best of luck to Mark. Though I do hope his team crashes and burns. That's what rivalries are all about.

I am a bit worried that Mark will eventually put it together and have a strong career at Mizzou. And if that happens, that makes Cuonzo's recruiting that much stronger in the metro East area.

But if it's true that this hurts them with Ramey, then I'm all for it. Ramey is a kid that can step in and make a difference for them immediately. Why they'd take Smith if it knowingly takes them out of the Ramey hunt is beyond me, which leads me to suspect that perhaps the "Ramey won't play with Smith" talk is exaggerated. But I hope that's the case.

Ramey would be much more important to Mizzou than Mark Smith.

I’m not going to stay classy. The kid is moving to a rival. Plus he quit on us because he couldn’t hack it. Lets be real Trent success here miffed the guy that was Mr. Basketball and recruited by UK and Duke . Underwood gave him all the chances to succeed here. Instead of working to improve, he bailed on us for Miznoz. I’m for one will be booing that guy across the border.
