I’m not gonna panic, I still think we’ll be really good with Kofi. But it’s so frustrating how EVERY season we seem to have an early momentum killer against an inferior team.

Also, when was the last time we actually won one of these Gavitt tipoff games? I can’t even remember winning any.

I’m sorry but I’m not sold on curbelo being a star player that was unacceptable for any high level D1 player
He's a sophomore who played well in spurts as a freshman.
We all want him to be a star immediately, but it will obviously take some more time.
Everyone agrees that the talent is there.

It seems like we've been talking about Curbelo fixing turnover for a year now. Last year it was "wait until later in the season and he'll get it under control". Then it was "he's a true freshman, he'll improve with age". Well here we are and it's actually gotten worse. I don't know what if anything is going to turn this around for him but it needs to come soon. I'm starting to fear it isn't coming at all.
There are 352 other D1 teams, and accompanying fans, that will gladly take him.

Izzo's teams almost always have a game or two like this early as well.

Why do I get the feeling BU is now smiling with that evil coaches smile knowing how he gets to run practices now?

"Oh, you think you're a top 10 team with an AA point guard? Ok."

*looks at team manager* "We're gonna need extra puke buckets today."
If this is Underwoods style we are definitely in trouble...I say this as a huge Underwood fan

The Queenery in this thread is ELITE.

One point loss on the road without our All-American. Yes, Curbelo stunk. He’ll get better. Deep breaths.

This is nonsense. We lost to a terrible Mizzou team in December last year and got a 1 seed.
You know you can't just extrapolate one example to try and prove a general point right? I guaranteed we'd win by double digits in the game thread yet me saying "bad losses are bad for seeding" is what gets the most negative response??

It was a little hyperbolic....but Curbelo needs a serious dose of discipline after this game. If it's not running, or sitting, then I'm not sure what coaches do these days.

He had great games last year too, in spiky pressure situations. Those will continue.

But he's a Jekyll and Hyde player and if we have no choice but to run our offense through 35 minutes of Hyde, every game Hyde appears against a good team (which we did not play tonight) is a loss.

BU deserves some criticism for allowing him to play out of control.
I took the lack of changes as purposeful, particularly when he didn't call the TO at the end. If we didn't end last season on a note in which we were thoroughly outclassed due, in part, to a lack of in-game adjustments, then I wouldn't be concerned in the slightest. As far as today played out (and focusing solely on this game), this has the potential to be a great early-season opportunity to drive home an important lesson for Belo (and the team as a whole). Heck, turning the ball over (again) as the nail in the coffin might end up being a better outcome for our team, in the long run, than having him split the defense and throw up a miraculous lob to win the game. There's no happy ending to this game (unlike the IUP game, for instance) that allows Belo to overlook his game's warts. He's going to have to make changes one way or the other. I'm hopeful that he can make those adjustments and that we can all be supportive as he works to fix those issues and play more like the 6th man of the year that he was as a freshman. The early results on this message board, with many ripping him (and his character) to shreds and some even joining the website solely to bash the kid (see: @Crunch, for example), are not encouraging, but I hope that's just emotions running high and that we'll all be able to realize it's one game in November by tomorrow morning.

The other elephant in the room is that both transfers are underwhelming at best.
Yeah we were counting on way, way more from Plummer than the no-show we got tonight.

And if I may add a third elephant, we got about 30 seconds from the freshmen.

Maybe that's Shaka Ball specific, I guess we'll see.

I agree 100% but in my opinion, the time for making a coaching statement passed in the 2nd half. Way too long of a leash in any one game.

BU needs to shorten the leash on Curb Appeal to a 3 foot chain. I blame BU for not benching a player who is absolutely killing his team with beyond sloppy, stupid turnovers, wild off balance shots, no court vision, constant complaining to the refs, and an uncanny instinct for crushing any momentum we had. Trent should have been running the point for most of the second half, instead of letting Andre spiral down until the whole team circled the drain.
If there is one thing that drives me nuts is his complaining to the refs. Just shut up and get back on defense.

Should we give them participation medals?
Ha!!! Participation medals require participation.... You may have misinterpreted my comment but I was trying to allude to more in game adjustments than being happy to have practice motivation after a completely embarrassing loss regardless if you have Kofi or not. Definitely didn't appear to be a top 10 team that played tonight.
