2) 1/19 Indiana 103, Illinois 69
When is the last time that the Illini have had seven (7!) 25+ points, get blown off the court, losses in one calendar year?
Go Illini!

My apologies, that should be 24+ points and not 25+ points... clearly the Indiana loss was only by 24 points.

Weber did not have great record at Illinois, but I don't remember many games that we lost by 25 or more points. He did teach defense.

There were a handful of those, but Weber couldn't win close games to save his career.

I agree with everything you said except the last sentence. This is no longer close to being on Weber. Groce has had 5 years to turn things around and they're worse now than when he got here. It's his program and the blame should rest on him; not his predecessor.

+1. Why JT continues playing more than spot minutes is the biggest mystery of this season.

Saw on another board that Groce has 11--20+pt losses in 4.5 years and that Lon, Self and Weber only had 8 in 16 seasons. Yikes!!

I have to laugh . . . not a good game . . . Exceeded only by the world's WORST fan base here on Loyalty. AB . . SO . . LUTE . . . WORST

How so? The fact that so many are still so passionate about the program despite the past decade and especially the past 4 years says the opposite as far as I'm concerned. What should we do? Pat Groce on the butt and say "nice try, you'll get 'em next time!" after witnessing him get thrashed again and again and again... I believe it was Archibald who tweeted something about just losing 2 home games in his entire collegiate career... Groce has lost 7 games by 25 points in the 2016 calendar year alone. It's one thing to lose, this is something else.

+1. Our mediocre play the last four seasons gas taken the fun out of watching UI hoops. I give fans on this forum a lot of credit for continuing to care. I've posted less the last two seasons because the product on the floor has been harder to watch. Seeing a once proud program reduced to missing the Dance for going on four straight seasons is almost shocking considering where we once were. Miss the Dance again this year and JG has to be fired.

Didn't Dakich say to bet the house on Washington State scoring a lot of points?

College Park was rocking. I'd love the team to have beat the Terps on the road. The non-conference home winning streak they snapped always stings when thinking of their program, plus the underarmor versus Nike thing.

Didn't like the way the refs called this one. It wouldn't have won this game, but it cost the team ten points, and any chance of a momentum shift. The Mav traveling call in the second half was weak sauce. Mav took a step after picking up his dribble and handed the ball off in the air. I noticed how the guys started avoiding contact on drivers, and the refs were still giving them the call. Then Kate in the game MH made a nice hesitation move where a Maryland defender crashed into him. The call was made, but the whistle was very slow. TA's 9 fga looked like a foul on the arm with no call.

The team isn't sharing the ball, and it pours over to the defensive end. Passes are being made, but it looks like with reluctancy. Assists are just as nice as buckets.

Kipper solidified his minutes. Leron and Kipper bring toughness. I saw Kippper go shoulder to shoulder with the aggressive Terrapins numerous times only for the Maryland player shaking from head to toe from the contact. Kid looked good with extended minutes.

AJ with some nice D, and he's a very good communicator. He hesitated looking for the 3 point line, but the O will click.

We dropped 20 on them in the last 6 minutes, but that was with no Jackson on the floor. Kid is a beast. Weren't we in on him?

I love our set where we do the double pick up top top with the bigs. A lot can happen with that. All of our bigs can run it.

As is life in the B1G on the road. On to the next which isn't halfway across the country.

Something actually demeaning - KenPom now has us at #11 of the 14 B1G teams, ahead of only 6-6 Nebraska, 8-6 Penn State, and 11-3 Rutgers. Sad

If Rutgers plays us like they did Wisconsin they might beat us by 20.

As it stands, this team is unwatchable.

We really are unwatchable. I could barely pay attn during Braggin Rights the quality of the play was so poor. And today.... I played trains with my son for the second half.

Today's matchup was not a good one for us, but Ohio State won't be either. We don't do well against athletic teams. I don't know how much a lineup change would help, but we're approaching the point where it can't hurt.

I'm watching Minnesota-MSU. Minny looks significantly better than us. That guy Coffey quite impressive.

Yes they've really improved their athleticism the last couple of years. Good game.

Reminds me of the old joke, I've only been wrong once in my life and that was when I thought I was wrong, but I was actually right. :D

Still seven (7!) 25+ point defeats in 2016... 3 of them by 30+... Can't wait for this year to end.

Another cheery thought, it's only 11 more days until the Illini travel to Bloomington. Anyone remember when the Illini knocked off #1 ranked Indiana at home?

We need to figure out how to compete and lose by single digits to turn this thing around.

Watched the 2nd half live and just finished the 1st half on replay. It really is astounding how bad we are, across the board, at staying in front of anybody. It makes me wonder why we don't use the defense everyone plays on Tate against every guard and wing. Stay in man but just lay back and invite them to shoot. I seriously wonder whether their shooting percentages off wide open shots might be no better than what percentage they score on blowbys all day.

Watching JCL and Finke defend a pick and roll together would have me rolling on the floor laughing if they weren't on my team.

If you think it doesn't matter to the NCAA selection committee whether the Illini lost to Maryland by 3 or by 25, you are kidding yourself.

You could've just left it at, "We need to figure out how to compete..."

Getting blown off the court and losing by 25 points is not competing. The Illini were actually down by 31 with 7 minutes to go before hitting a couple of 3 point bombs to cut the lead.

If you're playing a team that you're expected to *compete* against, there's no good reason to ever be down by 31 points. If this just happened to be a "fluke" well then maybe you just chalk it up to a "bad night". The Illini have had 7 *really* bad nights in 2016. This is not a fluke... it's a trend.

The previous time that the Illini played Maryland, the game was at Maryland with the students on campus, Maryland was ranked #14 and the Illini were banged up with injured players in street clothes. The Illini lost 55-81.

This time, it was the Illini with the more experienced team, students not in classes and Maryland with two injured players sitting on the bench. The result is that the Illini lost 59-84. Bravo, the Illini managed to lose only by 25 instead of 26 points.

A common factor between the two games? Same coaching staffs for both teams for both games.

First true road game for the Illini this season. You think that the players would be feeling the same if the game came down to a last possession shot?

Seeing as this is the second time this season that they've gone to the East Coast and gotten whipped, where do you think their confidence is now going into the rest of the B1G schedule? You really think that more pep talk from Captain "TnT" will pull them out of this funk? Sure hope so...

Last game of the B1G regular season is at Piscataway... (Everyone has this one checked off already as a win, right?) Last year the Illini needed 3OT to beat a horrid Rutgers team and Freshman PG Corey Sanders put up 39 points against the Illini. What could go wrong?

Go Illini!
