And Morez is right, too. They got used to easy looks against Iowa and kept trying to do that stuff. Once things get tough, we kind of wilt.
He is the CEO and responsible for all of it, including the lack of defense. Things might have been a little different had the team stayed healthy during the B1G season and gained more valuable experience, but he is responsible for building this roster. A lot of good moments, but this team will not make it past the first weekend once again, IMO.

True. Our guards and wings were physically stronger and could get to any spot they wanted against Iowa. The reverse was true last night. Morez was right; instead of that inside-out game that is so effective and even helps the 3-point looks, last night we spent a lot of time going side to side and then just launching a 3. Maryland's toughness defensively had something to do with that, but so did our decision-making. Boswell is strong and when he got downhill, he made 6 of 9. But he also settled for 7 3's and made none. The only guy that seemed to play his normal, good offensive game was Will...and even he missed two or three close-in shots he normally makes. Constant defensive pressure takes a toll.
You always need a few guys who will throw you against your locker and take your lunch money.
I'm with you here. If we win a game in the tourney, that's probably as far as we can go. And I wouldn't be surprised at all if we get pantsed in the first round.
On the whole, this team has been mostly disappointing. There were a few nice moments - beating Miznoz, beating mediocre IU and Iowa teams. But mostly, it's been a season to forget. A lot of potential unrealized, things just never came together. Never could seem to get all five starters clicking at once (counting Riley as the fifth starter here).
I've seen the same things over and over. Poor PnR defense, no adjustments, too much one on one offense. Really need to maintain this level of recruiting but bolster the staff with high basketball IQ assistants on both sides of the ball.
There are no positives with this loss. Illinois is who they are. They are an average team that cannot compete with elite bigs, but with the right draw might get lucky. I have zero expectations going into next week.
This probably played some part in the loss, but we weren’t beating MD the way they played last night. I still think we lose by 15+ even if we had equal rest
Funny (not in a ha ha way) to think of the back and forth pre-season wondering how we would get minutes for so many rotation level players. Yet here we are on the cusp of the NCAAT, and our bench basically doesn't exist. Morez should be much better the further he gets from his injury, but beyond that we are incredibly thin.
It also doesn't help KJ has regressed so much, injury or whatever, to the point where he is a net negative most games. His lack of athleticism/explosiveness is glaring and he just hasn't been tough with the ball or on D for long stretches.
Hoping we can get something going in the tourney, but once that wraps hopefully BU gets moving quickly on roster and staff improvements for next year.

This where I’m at. We have a lot of holes to fill for next year: 1) speed/athleticism, 2) shooting, and 3) more frontcourt options.
It just amazes me how many times our guards are trailing the man they are guarding. It makes us look slow, but I don't know if it's that we are slow, out of position or the way we play defense. I just think something needs to change with our defense.
Kylan Boswell is a better defender than Ty. Even on taller players. Ty was good but he couldn't defend quicker gaurds. They ate him alive.
Just weighed her. Lucky for her, she weighs more than a duck.

What a job BU has done where a top 20 KenPom finish is a forgettable season.
This year we beat #18 Wisconsin, #21 Mizzou, #23 Oregon by 32, @ Indiana by 25, @ #22 Michigan by 20, and another win against #20 Purdue.
Sure, when we went through a stretch where we were missing a starter or two each game, we lost a few ugly ones, but I don’t see this as a throw away season. More Quad1 wins in the regular season this year than last year.

Seriously. When we play defense, our guards actually DO get screened at least half the time, setting up a brief 2 on 1 situation that leads to easy baskets. It so painful to watch over and over again. The "contest from behind" strategy, or whatever you want to call it, does not seem to be working well... I would have canned it a long time ago.

Our success in the NCAA tournament will depend solely on matchups. If we face a team with two physical inside bigs, we’re probably not going to win. More traditional lineups will be to our favor and we have the talent to match. However, we do not have the experience. The Big Dance is a whole ‘nother level when it comes to pressure. Having been through those wars once or twice before certainly is a plus. I believe only Boswell and DGL have been there before.

Every player you mentioned except Ty were 4th or 5th year seniors. That's a bit of a difference between the mostly 18 and 19 year old team we have now. Far more physically and mentally mature.
