Matic Vesel (2017 PF) commits to Illinois

Wow just wow.

These guys (coaches) are the real deal!!!

+1

Add me to the list of AMAZED fans. The work they've done in such a short time is jaw-dropping.

Couple take-aways I get from this staff:

* Winning is something they do every day
* Underwood is not afraid of bringing in what others consider "average" talent. By that I mean that despite having some high-talent guys on the roster, he is confident he can find and develop players who fit, and win with them.
* He's not here to show results a couple years from now. Turn it around today
* He wants options, which is a sign of how good his coaching chops are. Taking our weakest position and getting some options will change how he can utilize people.

Btw, I don't expect miracles. We're in a conference with several top-25 teams, and he's only been on the job a couple months. I just like what I'm seeing.

He's not hard to find. Take him to Scheel's in Springfield.šŸ˜†

Tisdale works at Scheel's? Last time I was there, Scheel's also had a manager named David King, a 7 footer from Havana from the 80s who played at SLU.

No worries getting stuff down from the top shelf there.

Did I see a Kiki Vandeweghe name drop?

That elevates this thread a couple notches. :thumb:

6'9" 196?? Somebody get that young man a double burger, fries and a shake and introduce him to Mike Tisdale!

Love this kids potential. These are the kind of raw players with a lot of athleticism that a great coaching mind like Underwood can help reach max potential. Some staffs in the past I couldn't make the same statement.
Very interested to see his and spicy g's progression through their careers.

My guess was Mattish Veshel. The final C in Matic could be anywhere from S to ISH to ITCH - probably somewhere between the last two.

Werner on the Tay and Jay show pronounced it Ma-teek.

Generally in that part of the world it is pronounced as -ITCH, but you can always find exceptions, such as Christian Pulisic

Christian Pulisic was born and raised (is an 18 year old finished being raised?) in the US, as was his dad, and most likely his mother. So his name is from that part of the world, but he certainly isn't. Which is why it's so exciting how good he is already. He's a home grown talent. But I wouldn't put too much stock into how they pronounce their name.

USA! USA! USA!

Good point. I think his pronunciation is 100% American.

I think we can look forward to a lot of announcers butchering a lot of names until these guys establish themselves.

So with our two recent 2017 bigman additions I finally stopped feeling stung by the Tilmon debacle and decided to wander over to Tigerboard while I wait for rain this afternoon. I was stunned and am quite amused to report that they've gone batshit crazy and they are now booking their tickets to the final four in San Antonio...

Edit to add: They also got wind that it was reported they were turned down by Holtman implying there may be a preferable coach in the world to the great Zo. Someone actually mentioned that discussions with an agent to gauge interest does not mean you were actually offered the job...

Ma-teek is preferred. Auto-matic it is. Props to whoever came up with that first.

;)

Also, they need to play this during breaks in play when he's on the floor, or after he hits a couple nice shots in a row:
