It seems to me that there are two events here. Gard and Howard have their little tiff, and then in the ensuing seemingly calming everybody-get-back scenario, Howard decides to reach out and hit Krabbenhoft for seemingly no apparent reason.

For Howard not to be contrite and apologetic about it is almost as bad as the incident itself. Ridiculous behavior from a millionaire adult CEO of a program.

I could be wrong but I think he was responding to Howard saying "we will remember this"
The timeout was bush league. Gard should have just walked past. Howard’s response was inexcusable. My point is only that Gard is a d&@$ and should carry a share of the blame for this mess.

I did notice Gard doing nothing as the fighting escalated. Seems lame that he would not be trying to break it up.. Almost like he is watching it on TV. Howard deserves what he gets but Gard is no angel…
Kinda hard to be the peacemaker when you were part of the start of a battle. Not saying he couldn't have done it, but there's also an argument that staying out might help deescalate.

(Spoiler alert: It did not deescalate.)

The timeout was a response to Michigan still playing defense against Wiscy subs as if the game outcome was still in doubt.
I think that was bushier league.

I expect Howard to get a 2 game suspension. I also don't expect him to make it through another 2 years at Michigan. He will likely get a stern warning from UM admin, which will make it feel like he isn't supported, and Howard isn't one to last long if he suspects admin/boosters are out to get him. He doesn't need the Michigan job at this stage in his life... Thank goodness we have Brad Underwood...

I do not like Gard and hardly think he’s blameless here. He should have just rolled his eyes and said, “Okay, bud.” when Juwan said he wouldn’t forget the timeout. However, Gard’s petulance didn’t lead him to physically assault anyone, and Howard’s did; that’s the only difference, and it’s massively important.
Agree. But I am hoping Gard does get some sort of reprimand.

Gard also should be apologetic for acting like a toddler in that situation. Forget any of the basketball stuff, be the bigger person in the handshake line.

Did Krabbenhoft even do anything? It didn't look like it to me, but what else could Howard have been reacting to?

When you accept a leadership position, you accept responsibility.
Responsibility for yourself, and those you lead. You no longer have the luxury of taking things personally. You aren’t representing yourself, you are representing an institution. Pride be damned. This altercation wasn’t about protecting players, it was about protecting pride.
Mr. Howard failed as a leader today. Not for the first time.

I'm kinda hoping he said something like "At least you won't be vacating any banners for this season."

He pushed two Michigan players right before the five finger reprimand.

So keeping your starters in the game when the game is already lost and pressing the backups & walk-ons of the other team isn't bush league? The time out was so he could you know.. coach his players that get little time on how to break the press and reset the 10 second count. It isn't bush league it was called coaching. Juwan Coward forced him to keep coaching by keeping his starters in and doing what they were doing. So please stop this false narrative that it was all on Gard for calling a timeout.

In the end JH had the right to keep his starters in and press while Gard had the right to call a timeout and coach his players. JH then got all butthurt about it but I guess he's used to getting butthurt by timeouts. (waves to Chris Webber)
