Hopefully get to make it up or play them in the conference tourney..I do think we at least will get to play MSU and Nebraska and make those games up. this time slot should allow that

I fully support keeping them isolated until the health issues are resolved. But it's going to make it hard for any team to catch them if they don't play any games and just sit there with one loss. Even tougher that a number of the games they are canceling are against the teams with an actual shot to knock them off.

At this point maybe cancel the conference tournament and use that week to make up some of these games? 🤷‍♂️
This was my thought as well. Use that week to reschedule as many of those games as possible. Try to get every team on similar footing to better determine the champion, tourney teams, seeds, etc.

This approach will only work for major conferences where the winner of the conference tournament was presumably getting an at-large bid anyway. The smaller, one- or two-bid conferences rely on their conference tournaments to see who makes it to the NCAA tournament - not sure if or how this could work for all leagues.

Could potentially fit the Michigan State game in that spot, though MSU plays the 9th and the 13th.

I don't see how the conference is going to make up all of these postponed games. Awarding the B10 title could get pretty messy (and someone is going to have a legitimate gripe about it). I hope it's not us.
The conference has to start actually rescheduling games, even if its a ways down the road. Our Neb game has been postponed for how many weeks? Seems unacceptable to me. Someone on twitter brought up rescheduling our MSU game for next Thursday, why not? I dont expect the conference to immediately have makeup dates for every game, but there's gotta be some urgency here.

Can't reschedule games until teams are actually back playing. Nebraska hasn't played any games since the beginning of January.

It's called "The OSU Gambit" ;)

It reeks of the "everybody gets a trophy" attitude that all the olds think is the cause of society's purported downfall, but I think an argument could be made to have two (or more, in the event of a tie between the top non-Michigan teams) co-champions this season.

The record books for this season are already full of asterisks, so what's a few more?

Exactly. It could even work with all the teams quarantined in the same city/setup as the conference tournament. There's a ton of logistics to the scheduling but they could probably fit in a few games for each team.

The Michigan basketball situation is similar to Ohio State in football. Cancellations make it difficult for teams to be compared appropriately.

That being said, the time off for Michigan may make them rusty.

As long as we keep improving, we should not worry about them. I would rather be playing then sitting around and having just 1 loss.

Seriously. In a normal year, with fans, I think the conference tournament is one of the most underrated parts of the season, and I actually get a little annoyed with older fans talking about how they hate how it was added. I attended it for the first time two years ago at the United Center when we got absolutely shellacked by Iowa, and in SPITE of that I had an absolutely amazing time. The atmosphere and setup completely exceeded my expectations, and I have heard Indianapolis does it even better. As an Illini fan AND Chicagoan, I always want it here for the homecourt advantage, but my sister lives in Indianapolis and their downtown setup is truly remarkable for a thing like this.

With that said, if there aren't going to be fans and you have games to make up ... why not? There might be a team or two that suffers who could have made a run and snuck into the NCAAs with the auto bid (MSU?) or gotten just enough work in to squeeze in as an at-large (IU?), but giving up that chance would be better for the conference than an Illinois, Iowa, Ohio State, Wisconsin, etc. catching COVID and having their NCAA runs in jeopardy.

Honestly, what we SHOULD do is just move absolutely everything back until conferences can get their full schedules made up AND play their conference tournaments, perhaps having April and May Madness. I know that won't happen for TV reasons, but it's a shame. Knock on wood and all, but I don't think COVID is going to get markedly worse (an opinion deeply held and shared by my COVID nurse girlfriend and roommate) as people continue to get vaccinated, and from a completely logical perspective it is a no-brainer. Money talks, though.

The Big Ten game of the year is being postponed (if not cancelled)...

Well, since I'm such an optimist....there's no way the guys will be looking past Wisconsin now.
On a related note, the Nebraska-MSU game this weekend will probably set college basketball back roughly 70 years. Nebraska is just barely getting back into practices now and they were hot garbage to begin with.

Speaking of scUM, the clip with the draft analyst showing Franz wagner at # 20 and Ayo at 45 still has me confused...
I think Wagner and trace JDavis are 2 of the most overrated players in the country...Wagner is playing better this year , but, 25 slots higher than Ayo ?
And even though he had a double double against us TJD misses more close in shots than any other interior player that I can remember....JMHO

Seriously? A tab bit offensive.

Even the Hoosiers fans think TJD is not a good pro prospect for various reasons. He will disappear in the NBA if he even gets drafted. Wagner is good, no doubt, and his brother being in the league doesn't hurt his evaluation IMO. But I agree - 25 slots higher than Ayo is a little wonky.

Unfortunately for Kofi, TJD's outside game translates to the NBA. Granted he did airball one yesterday but he's proven he can hit that shot at the free throw line extended.

I do think TJD is a bench guy at best though in the NBA

That would be rough for MSU. One alternative game is to move up the second Wisconsin game to replace the UM vacancy and give both teams some breathing room to add a replacement game later in the year.

It'd be a tight stretch of games, but all 3 would be home games for MSU, so they wouldn't have to travel at all.

EDIT: Also Wisconsin has Nebraska scheduled for the 11th so they don't have the slot open.

Hoiberg said in a article on ESPN they are going to try and play all makeup games. He said 15 games in 32 or 33 days is what it would be for them.

You should watch the University of Illinois Men’s Basketball team.

haha but I agree. This is shaping up to be a pretty weak draft class in terms of impact NBA players from the B1G
