That’s exactly right…so the Illini, fans and donors have to ride out a sinking ship before doing something about it. I get that that is how it typically goes, but be bold! Get ahead of it and avoid the 2 or 3 years sinking into the abyss.

"Yes?"

Brad built the program back up, but it’s time for someone else to bring it further.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Brad has a ceiling. It was obvious from the first two years where we played that ridiculous denying-every-pass defense and we got killed on backdoor passes every game… it took two entire years to realize that it wouldn’t work. It was driving me nuts after the first few Big Ten games in 2017-18 when it was clear it wasn’t going to work.

Only after we were able to add top tier recruits that we made a leap. We rode Ayo (who should get as much or more credit than anyone for coming here when we were in the gutter) and Kofi to the top of the Big Ten. That team had no business losing to Loyola, but Brad got his as! handed to him by Porter Moser because they sold out to stop the Ayo PnR and we made zero adjustments. That team has way too much talent to not make at least the E8.

Without TSJ averaging 31 points in the BTT and first three rounds of the NCAAT, we don’t make the elite 8.

Credit to Brad for getting those players to come here and motivate them to perform at a high level. But never expect him to take a team and have it over-perform its talent.

If he's on the phone looking for a way forward, that's good. I hope he won't be angry. I hope he instead is working on a solution. Let's go!

Let’s get a coach deserving of that kind of pay and honor, someone who will put the team’s success above his ego and his child’s professional “leg up”.

From the time we went up by 16, they scored 64 points. We scored 65 total.
I was thinking something similar. It wasn't 30 straight like the UConn game, however, it was us getting outscored by 30 (64-34) after our 31 to 15 lead. The lack of adjustments, bizarre rotations, the failure to use timeouts to stem the tide have become more than worrisome. I started doubting Brad after our worse loss ever, Loyola. Great recruiting will only take you so far.

You realize that we put a WHOLE NEW ROSTER together this year, right? The whole thing. DGL was the only guy to return. Why did we recruit him? These are young guys and a few of them need time to develop and in Booth's case, he just needs to be physically stronger.

The fact that the expectation was for him to recruit a Final Four caliber starting 5 + 3 deep on the bench is just stupid and idiotically unrealistic.

This team plays like a team of young guys, mostly freshmen, who have enormous pressure on their shoulders for the first time.

Oh, wait. They are a team of freshmen that have enormous pressure for the first time. These long meltdowns don't happen with four seniors on the floor. That's not our situation.

This is the first year of college basketball for our most important pieces. I'm fine with the learning lessons. They're hard ones. The issue is, you bring these guys along.....will they be her next year for all of this effort to pay dividends?

Doubt it.
