On the topic of "shoot their way out of it", has anyone looked into whether that actually works for our slumpers? I might go check their first half v. their second half percentages, and see how often that works, i.e., a lousy first half percentage turns around (the infamous "reverts to the mean") in the second half.

Hope you’re right, … but then a couple of crazy things happened just last night.
The whole season been fill with crazy things. I am not into the whole superstition thing surrounding my sports fandom but my god all the weird things that have happened this season you can make a movie out of it. Kylan setting sages off in the arena, flu spreading like wildfire, Tomi catching mono, KJ out of the blue wrist/arm injury, Tre in the doghouse, TSJ's banner debacle, and to top it all off freaking Tyler Hansbrough had more positive things to say about this team than he did about last year team. Just weird things derailing this team. Roller coaster ride for sure.

I would also like to add my name to the list of those appalled by the banner raise. With that said I have not been an Underwood fan from the first time he set foot here. I a just not a fan. I don’t care for his “coaching style” nor his media ability. I guess I was fortunate enough to be spoiled with Kruger and Self. I have never played college or pro ball and realize that assistant coaches do a lot (help game plan, help with practice, etc). I have seen it said on here several times that Brad is not an “Xs and
’s guy” and that he needs to find an assistant to do that. Firstly the fact that he is bad at Xs & Os just blows my mind. How can you be at this level and not have a clue how to do that or how to manage a game. To me a coach does those things. For other teams I see assistant coaches pointing things out to the coach etc but that is what I guess I thought their job was instead of being responsible for developing an offense and defensive strategy because it was deferred to them by the coach. This is not football where there is an OC and DC. The assistants role should be the little things that the coach my overlook while the game is going on and tell the coach hey I see this happening etc. I long for an offense where the team works together to get players in positions to succeed. To me having actual plays is just something that is absolutely necessary or you end up with this mess. Rant over.

We were pretty good shooting 3’s in the first half (6 for 17, 35.3%) and pretty bad in the second half (1 for 16, 06.2%).

So does everyone else except Morez. It's something else obviously.

You say that with such certainty. I’m posting this from the land of $1 million starter homes and tech salaries can be almost half of that.

In other words Generational might not mean what it used to.

It all started the moment Bam did that satanic sage burning crap in State Farm. We have been 5-6 since that point losing 3 games at home.

1. Not playing Tre and limiting DGL's minutes is coaching malpractice. Plain and Simple. Those 2 and MJ will be in the portal. Who could blame them?
2. The upside-down hanging of Shannon's jersey was on purpose. No way you hang that jersey upside-down by accident. A 5th-grader couldn't make that mistake. Someone wanted to make a statement . . . and they did.
3. KJ is not a top 5 pick. Top 50 maybe.
4. Tomi is just soft. Maybe he's sick, idk. But he has no physical presence offensively or defensively.
4. Brad cannot adjust in-game and is depending on his nepotic son to do it. Results are as to be expected.
5. I'm going to miss Morez Johnson more than any of them. He's going to be a star somewhere.
6. Brad's not leaving. No one is going to pay him more than the $4.6 million he makes. Even Matt Painter (a much better X's and O's coach) makes less than Brad.
7. Most here won't like my criticism of Brad. I remember Groce and Weber had their defenders, too. So, I don't care. Eventually, people will see the light. Illinois can do better.

How do you not play Tre White unless he's hurt? Shameful.

(Yes, I'll admit it. I'm upset. This season HAD so much promise.)

Couldn’t agree less. BH is NOT a good defender what so ever. And he has always been inconsistent on 3’s. Are you watching the games? Do you read the stats after the games? He’s 23% on threes

In addition to spending extra time in the gym and working with a life coach and hypnotist to build up confidence in your shooting...

One thing the Illini should be doing is allowing Jakucionis to teach the other guys his magnificent ball release and righteous spin and resulting shot accuracy from distance. It is a work of art and thing of beauty to watch the ball leave his hands and seek the empty space in between the twine like a guided missile on a mission.

He needs to cut down on his turnovers. But that ball release and trajectory is just sweet...

A problem with the jersey itself from what I heard. Might have used his Texas Tech one??

This year is extra disappointing because it's clear we have a super talented roster and with the right coaching they could very well be a final four caliber team. But there's zero indication the coaches are suddenly going to learn from their mistakes and improve all of a sudden. We just don't make the right adjustments, and even if we do it's always too little too late.
I agree that we have a super talented roster and that’s about it. Not sure why so many on here are shocked and demoralized about where we are now. Almost an entirely new team this year, only a couple of returning players. Who is going the be the floor general? Especially when your best players are freshmen? How long to develop continuity on the floor? You can fairly say that it should fall to the coach in situations like these, but come on, it’s a whole new world out there with the portal and nil. Going to be a learning curve there. Imagine if this occurred 8 years ago, I don’t know about you but I would be thinking ; Wow, we are going to be great next year. I think Brad has been an improvement over the past two coach’s. He has navigated the portal and nil reasonably well and hopefully finds a winning and repeatable formula.

Let’s not forget about the adjustments that were not made against Loyola. Can sound good in a press conference, just not a good in-game coach.

They could have laughed off the whole deal with “we had the jersey to remember how most of Terrence’s opponents saw him - upside down and in the air.”

That’s not how it happened.

I believe it is because our head coach has as recently as 2 weeks ago described this team as having Final Four potential. That now seems unlikely, ahem, as 4 consecutive wins would be required in the tournament to reach that level. It is true that this year's team won 5 games in a row once this season, between Dec 22nd and Jan 8th. Since that time, the team has a losing record (5-6).

Since some posters here were called idiots for expressing concern that we struggle to play 40 complete minutes after the late run from Northwestern, the team has been down by as much as 10 to Nebraska, 11 to Ohio State, 17 to Rutgers, allowed UCLA to cut a 16 pt lead to 2 in 4 minutes, and lost a game by 14 in which they had a 16 pt lead.
