The most frustrating thing about KJ’s fifth foul was the fact that we played a zone the possession before, presumably to help prevent his fifth. Then the next time down we went man to man and KJ ran right into the trap. A couple more zone possessions would’ve been nice.

5 of 24 from three
17 of 27 from the foul line
Don't execute with a chance to win
Technical foul late in the game

I don't care about the refs. This is the fourth loss this year because of the same exact reasons(less the technical)?

I don't understand that last shot by Boswell. He knows it's illegal to shoot over the backboard, right? Why put up a shot that has no chance of counting even if it miraculously goes in?

Boswell did lot of silly things this game. And no he probably thinks if he does that and doesn’t hit anything it would have counted. It actually hit something on the way over the backboard and was auto out of bounds.

I think it would have been better for him to just get a shot up on the rim on that last possession and then Tomi has a chance at the off rebound. That quick pass is too hot to handle for most big guys if they aren’t expecting it. Wasn’t a very good game today for Boswell.

We will have to without getting the same type of home cooking because that just does not happen at State Farm.
Refs called acouple of no contact fouls on us in TN game

Hope Brad gets his money’s worth in the postgame.

We beat them by 15+ in Champaign next month. The better team did not win today and that will be shown in a few weeks.
We are easily 15 points better. Underwood should light up this pathetic conference. The sad thing is the administration for the conference is run by folks who are incompetent. We really need AI to take these peoples jobs

With all that nonsense (best player fouled out in limited minutes and in hostile road environment), the Illini still only lost by 2 and had a chance to win in the end. Michigan State may still be unbeaten in conference, but it is clear to any sane individual that the Illini are the more talented team. Looking forward to smoking the Izzos' in Champain next month.

Let's hope we don't see this officiating crew again. It was one of the sorriest excuses of officiating in a CBS game in a long time.

Need to protect home court next week and beat MD and NW. This team is still in good position for a deep March run, though the regular season conference title is becoming very unlikely. Who knows, maybe KJ getting a ton of rest today will help in the long run :)

Great fight. Probably takes us out of contention for regular season title.

I can’t say enough bad things about the refs today.

The fight goes on. Very favorable stretch coming up. Need to go 5-1 or 6-0 imo
The USC game is the one that will haunt in the end. Not this game.
I still hope Brad goes off during presser

Hope we get a few calls February 15th. Won't have any members of this horrendous crew though. Hopefully never again on the road.
But that’s the thing, I don’t want that! I want to not have to think about officiating at all.

It was such a stupid and maddening thing that, for decades, the entire middle of the country had to talk itself into the notion that “well, homering is just a thing that happens, gotta deal with it” as if asinine officiating was like the weather or something.

I thought it had gotten incrementally better, but maybe the joke’s on me.

Not even kidding.....is there Vegas funny business going on? I'm going back watching a series of atrocious calls. Does there need to be an investigation, or is this crew truly meant for high school games? It is either sinister, or just gross offciaiting incompetence.

This. They won the game, but i would think even Sparty knows they got away with one. Illini are the better and more complete team.
I agree. March Maddness matters much more given where this program is now. There is a lot to be excited about because what we saw from Motez and Will today. I think Will grew some today and hopefully will improve. It does impact the regular B10 chances but I expect our squad to go on a run if we don't get todays refs going forward

I got nothing after that hot garbage. We are clearly better than them.
As a fan of the game and admitting that virtually everything went to Sparty, there were a ton of things the Illini could and should have done to put them up in this game at the end. It was not a game where anyone on this team can be proud of their play....but can be easily changed to an Illini advantage. It was indeed a shame that the officials took KJ out of the game on some highly doubtful calls. But a couple or three of those were fouls that could have been avoided.

But I can't wait until the rematch in Champaign if that game is officiated fairly. Sparty is a good team with some very smart, athletic players and a crafty coach. They play hard and aggressive for 60 minutes. Due to Illini youth and inexperience, that cannot be claimed of all the beloved. But as much as any game they will play this year, there is tremendous growth to be had from lessons learned today.

This game is over. I look forward to the next and a better Illini team that is more than ever determined to learn from costly mistakes.
