That T on Brad was incredibly soft. Izzo is more heated than that on quite literally every possession. And he was completely in the right. There's no world you grant that time out. Sparty didn't come close to having actual possession.

I'm so proud of how we fought, but so mind-numbingly frustrated at how many things had to go just right for Sparty to eek that thing out. They're a paper tiger and sooner or later, they're going to get exposed.
Talked to someone there and they said it wasn't on Brad. Also said their was never a whistle or signal, just an announcement of a technical and then free throws.

Not even kidding.....is there Vegas funny business going on? I'm going back watching a series of atrocious calls. Does there need to be an investigation, or is this crew truly meant for high school games? It is either sinister, or just gross offciaiting incompetence.
The only good news is if their bets were for MSU against the spread, they just lost their houses.

His foot was out of bounds anyway when he shot it. With no time left not sure what what else he could have done other than jump back and try to make a circus fadeaway shot. Morez actually had a great chance to get it initially

Brad coached poorly today. Should've had Will out to start the second half. Took way too long to get him back involved and he was out of rhythm while everyone else jacked up too many 3's especially Tomi when it was clear he didn't have it today

As a fan of the game and admitting that virtually everything went to Sparty, there were a ton of things the Illini could and should have done to put them up in this game at the end. It was not a game where anyone on this team can be proud of their play....but can be easily changed to an Illini advantage. It was indeed a shame that the officials took KJ out of the game on some highly doubtful calls. But a couple or three of those were fouls that could have been avoided.

But I can't wait until the rematch in Champaign if that game is officiated fairly. Sparty is a good team with some very smart, athletic players and a crafty coach. They play hard and aggressive for 60 minutes. Due to Illini youth and inexperience, that cannot be claimed of all the beloved. But as much as any game they will play this year, there is tremendous growth to be had from lessons learned today.

This game is over. I look forward to the next and a better Illini team that is more than ever determined to learn from costly mistakes.
You don’t think that Morez should be proud of his play??? He’s not the only one, but what the heck. He made a huge stride in playability today AND against a good squad with a good interior.

Every game from here on out is for seeding and practice as far as I’m concerned. Pretty much everyone can come back. It’s NOT now or never. Just get better.

Of course there is. It’s not even a debate. People like Jeffrey Andersen should be investigated. The truth is most officials are terrible though and incredibly bias. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. The profession has no respect for a reason.

I disagree. And I’ve been critical of Brad as a in game coach. I think he adjusted as well as possible to the horrible officiating and bogus foul trouble. He had us in great position to win it.

ILL - 17/27 from the foul stripe
MSU - 21-27 from the foul stripe.

This was well within OUR control.

This was not well officiated, but it's the three point shooting (again) and poor judgement late(again) that cost us.

I don't understand that last shot by Boswell. He knows it's illegal to shoot over the backboard, right? Why put up a shot that has no chance of counting even if it miraculously goes in?
If he doesn't take that shot and somehow gets the shot off before the clock expires, the refs would have reviewed it and called him out of bounds.

But since it was an illegal shot, they didn't call out of bounds to run more clock off.

Schrodinger's Shot, if you will.

Usually aren’t going to win a road game when you shoot 5/24 on 3s.

Can’t risk a technical when it’s a 4 point game late. Stupid play by Underwood. He came out on the court and was restrained by Antigua. Should a ref call that on that situation? No. But if you are the HC, can’t risk it.

Basically nothing out of KJ. Can’t foul out on the play he did.

All that said to still be in the game on the road against a top 15 team is a positive. Great games outs of Riley, DGL, Morez. Really liked Morez this game. He is an excellent finisher down low and has really good hands.

Had a chance to steal it. Didn’t do it. On to the next game.
I didn't have the chance to watch the game, so I will take your written word for it. This will pay huge dividends from this game on forward.

The bench can compete with the best of them. Maintain the confidence and the wins will pile on.

Speaking of wins: if they get past Maryland (and they should), the Illini will go on a streak and get to 20 - 5 with a 12 - 3 record in the Big Ten.

And then it's the Sparty game. And we know what should happen there.

Lose by two. What about all the missed free throws? Especially the two that white and Riley each missed. That hurt.

The job we did in East Lansing today is hands down one of our most impressive games (all things considered) that we lost in ages. Everyone knows we played 15 points better and the analytics know we are better. Nothing to debate here.

Could Brad get his moneys worth during the game next time? Why is he letting Izzo work the refs all game while he just sits there?

Got a technical foul in a critical moment anyway and he didn't even get his moneys worth for it.

One of the most infuriating games I’ve watched in a long time. This is on Brad. I’m sorry. You just can’t get a Tech there. No matter what.

Free throws and layups cost us. Again. No poise in the second half. Terrible bouts of offense where we couldn’t even get the ball inside the 3-pt line.

And yes, criminal levels of officiating. Like shocking. Even for Big Ten officials. And there will be no repercussions. Taking our best players out of the game with just unbelievable calls.

We should have beat this team by a lot. They’re not good. And we could have still won this many, many times if we had just had our heads about us. Too many boneheaded plays.

Huge missed opportunity. So disappointed.
