Hit our free throws? Win.
Underwood doesn't get teed? Win.
Less home cooking from the stripes? Win.

I'm bummed but excited for the rest of the season.
The tech was on the bench per BU.

You can't, but the ball needs to be completely behind the backboard when going over it. No part can be over the side of the backboard, seemed like it might have been pretty close.
I realize it’s been 41 years so plenty of time to change a rule and from this angle it’s hard to tell for sure, but to this day Jay Edwards insists this shot went over the back of the backboard.

It’s neither here nor there, really. Boswell’s shot just reminded me of this. 🫤

A much happier ending in 1989.

Hope we get a few calls February 15th. Won't have any members of this horrendous crew though. Hopefully never again on the road.
We don't need a few calls to beat them handily. We just need a fairly called game. Shoot, even some mild home cooking against us would have been fine. We were very clearly better than them, at times even without KJ.

If the game in Champaign is called fairly, I think we win by 15.

Technical was called on the bench.

Tomi played with strep throat. Been on antibiotics past three days.

I’m shocked that Brad is not completely ripping the stripes. He just called High Knees one of the best refs in the country.
He’s biting his tongue in the postgame. He seems to be low-key seething.

I am really proud of how the Illini battled against incredible adversity. Boswell epitomized that. Didn’t have his best game, tried to do too much at times, but never backed down.
I loved the idea of taking the clock down and going for the win given all of the factors. Sure wish Boswell had taken the shot when he penetrated like he did because even if he had missed Tomi had great rebound position.
Tough one to lose, but think this game will pay dividends down the road.

I love it. Just lie about the liars and give them nothing. But yeah, the BigTen employs these guys for a reason. They are the best at… … what they do.

One of the most infuriating games I’ve watched in a long time. This is on Brad. I’m sorry. You just can’t get a Tech there. No matter what.

Free throws and layups cost us. Again. No poise in the second half. Terrible bouts of offense where we couldn’t even get the ball inside the 3-pt line.

And yes, criminal levels of officiating. Like shocking. Even for Big Ten officials. And there will be no repercussions. Taking our best players out of the game with just unbelievable calls.

We should have beat this team by a lot. They’re not good. And we could have still won this many, many times if we had just had our heads about us. Too many boneheaded plays.

Huge missed opportunity. So disappointed.

It absolutely did. You can't make that shot from that spot without going over the backboard unless you are a magician.

He's frustrating to watch because he just makes some baffling decisions. Can do some good things but so often just settles or seems to speed himself up and then make a mistake. He also needs to understand that whens guarding someone who can't shoot.

He also will get himself in trouble defensively by over pressuring quick guards that can't shoot and then creating lanes to the basket when he gets beat.

Jay Edwards was a monster but his foot was on the baseline when he shot that. Never mind. Set up one of the great all-time NCAA basketball climaxes. And I do mean "climax." I still vividly remember standing in my living room on Chalmers Street watching Nick bury that turnaround J from beyond the hash.
