This is on our guys. Way too many dumb plays. Right when we couldn't afford another mistake that was all we did. Terrible passes by everyone, mishandled balls, dumb fouls and missed shots when wide open. Not a recipe to win on the road at MSU. The refs were exceptionally bad missing many OB calls, goal tending calls, and calling ridiculous technicals while letting Izzo just go nuts on them. We could have won this game, but gotta do better at crunch time. Disappointed that no one was able to step up.
Izzo should have been t'd up a couple times. He literally ran out on the court practically to the ft line once and no t.

And if DGL, Dain, and Moretti are in there losing the game when steadier options are on the bench with fouls to give? Do we blame them just the same?

Yeah, players need to make plays. Coaches need to make substitutions. Calling timeouts can help with that.

Who is advocating for any of those three to get major minutes down the stretch?

But I don’t see it as selfish. He’s your star player and he’s gonna take some shots that may not be great. But he doesn’t play like a “me” guy. Understand what you’re saying but I’m not seeing it.
I'm not saying he is being selfish but his 3pt is not were he excels or is best at on our squad. Shooting 9.5 threes a game is not what is best for our squad imo.

Great question ... I really don't have a good answer for you on that one ...

Adjustments need to be made ...

Brad choosing to give Goode extended run why Ty is on the bench is beyond baffling to me ... He is a defensive liability ... If he can't make catch and shoot threes ... He is providing nothing ...

I would have also liked to have seen more Dain today ...

I also am sick and tired of Domask being the only option bringing the ball up the floor ... Keep the defense guessing ... Hawkins ... DGL ... Ty ... Throw different looks at them ... Domask dribbles up and just tosses it high to Coleman every freaking time ... Hoggard figured it out ... Turnover and the game is over ...
This. Late in games, they have no other solid options. It's a hope for the best situation. When we're in February and we're talking about us not having a firm option at the end of games.... we're in a bad spot.

Look at the names of our options:

1)A 6'10" center
2)A guy that is limited offensively
3)A kid who's played about 10 minutes in all of league play.

If we can't win road games against even average teams, that is going to be a problem. We still have Maryland, Penn St, Wisconsin, Iowa on the road. Can we even win 2 of those?
We could beat PSU and Wisconsin. Not saying we will but we could. I can't see us winning at Maryland or Iowa. And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to drop all four of those.

You can always blame it all on the coaching. You can always blame it all on the players. Both positions are wrong almost almost all the time.

Yet this board sure doesn’t think so.
A combination of both today...terrible turnovers at the end of the game and not playing Ty. At least go offense/defense whenever you can to have Ty in defensively. Goode doesn't have the strength to be posted. Transition d was poor at times.

can think of a position for him that he would have been qualified for

I was very vocal about him and one other guy when the announcement was made that we could add 2 more assistant coaches ...

Brad promoted Hamer and his kid ... Which to be fair ... Tyler has done a good job ...

I would also pay an absurd amount of money to get Gentry back ... FWIW ...

I figured we'd go up to East Lansing and find a way to get beat. In this case we blew it in the final minutes. Leading by 8 with about 3:30 to play, we just folded like a house of cards. As far as Domask bringing the ball up the floor all the time, we have GOT to find a real point guard. My guess is Moretti is the best one we've got, but he never plays. Give him some minutes against Michigan; see what happens.

Totally agree ... They went all in on RayJ and whiffed ...

We are now seeing the results of that ...

We just had a week of rest and practice, no excuses for the absolute collapse down the stretch.
In fairness the collapse wasn't due to conditioning. It was poor execution (by players and coaches), so rest had nothing to do with it.

On the (possibly?) positive side, with the insane amount of upsets in CBB this year, that’s continuing today, it’s really hard to gauge how much these losses push us down. It’s just sheer insanity week in and week out.

If we get bounced from the tournament and Ty only plays 2 of the last 13 minutes like he did today, I'm going to be real upset. It's one thing in February. It's frustrating, but not the end of the world. In March, we better be living and dying with our best players on the court. Luke, he's got a lot of heart and he's an important piece, but he isn't half the basketball player Ty is. No mistake is big enough to justify keeping Ty off the floor in the closing minutes of a close game in March.

Good insight/analysis. I actually find this supremely maddening.
